People are nicer, you get that "we're all in this together" mentality going, some hot chocolate and a coupla good dvds and it's all warm and cozy inside. My friends and I have always had a tradition of throwing on our boots and ratty winter outdoor gear and plodding through the drifts to the nearest watering hole and having a few pints. Good times.
This one has mostly missed us. We got a bit over the last couple days and will get a bit more this week, but no more than an inch or two with each storm. That is a delightful little scenario. My city doesn't handle bad weather very well, so it's nothing like that here, but but it would be nice if it was. If you will, so will I

I mean, I understand not being prepared by means of infrastucture (snow plows and such), but when it snows here everyone really is just a little bit nicer, I think. 'Cause we ALL have to deal. If you see someone's car stuck in the street you go help push them out (cause last time you were stuck someone helped you). You see folks snowblowing other people's driveways or walks cause they know that person only has a shovel (that happened at my brother's house on Xmas morning - we were all out shoveling the foot of snow we got and a neighbor came by with his kids and they did the whole driveway, blower, shovel and all). No one wants to walk through the drifts to get a drink with you? |

Not me. I hate shoveling that mess.

I just came back in from shoveling out to the street. It's not like in the north where they actually plowed the WHOLE street. They do a small lane down the center and you gotta plow halfway out to the street just to reach it. That's some bullshit.
We have to get a snow thrower. We're not getting any younger and I refuse to keel over from shoveling the driveway. Not glamorous. We have to have a good 30 here already and still coming down strong. [Edited 2/6/10 10:30am]

No one wants to walk through the drifts to get a drink with you? I went out at noon to get started with the shoveling, and I was obviously the only one who had bothered to even open the front door on my block. Nearly everyone I know is either still in bed, or has gone back to bed! If you will, so will I

It's pretty ridiculous over here. I was gonna post pictures in this thread but I feel a little lazy. But 24-30 inches is probably not an exaggeration at all.

And supposedly, here we go again. Another 10-20 inches expected here in the Baltimore area by end of the day tomorrow. Hey, at least work will be closing for me, so I can't hate on it. I actually love the snow, so bring it on, I say!

Despite all the snow they were supposed to get in Chicago today, I somehow managed to get back to Madison a mere hour after my scheduled arrival. Props to American Airlines and the folks at ORD. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

It's frightening that weather should paralyze our nation's capital the way it does. Pentagon was pretty much shut down (a family member works there) and you can't get fuckin food at the supermarket. Like...empty fuckin shelves.
If we hadn't moved down here I wouldn't believe it.

If we hadn't moved down here I wouldn't believe it. Is it because it generally doesn't snow that much down there? "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

If we hadn't moved down here I wouldn't believe it. Yep. Honestly, if the Federal Gov't opens this week, it will be Friday. There is a very good chance it could be closed all week.
