honestly, had he not let other people do empire and jedi, i dont think they would be great either. and the prequels probably would have been good if he let someone else write and direct them.

he has no clue how to direct actors or how to write dialouge.

carrie fisher has some hysterical bits about how bad he is at directing. one of the most memorable ones was she and hamill and ford used to joke they were going to build a board with two lights labelled "faster" and "louder" so he could just push the buttons, because those were the only direction he ever gave them.

Of the Star Wars prequels, Revenge Of The Sith was THE best. But that was only because the villains were winning (just like the case of The Empire Strikes Back).

watching the end, i groaned knowing i had sat through three shit movies for the only 10 minutes of sith that was even worth watching.

lucas is a hack.

Me too.

The combination of his writing/direction and the way he paints a picture are cloud9 His films are paintings with movement and sound.

The more I think about it, Lynch is really leading the pack of best of in this catagory. He's true to his ideas and themes, plus his vision is always visually amazing. He may falter in his method but you always know what he's trying to say.

granted, there are times his movies become so mother-humpingly weird they're hard to follow, but he is easily one of the top living directors.

none of the three. i'd go with almodovar.

I'd say Pedro Almodovar inherited the "women's director" tradition from George Cukor, and rightfully so nod only difference is, he's less accessible to some audience than George.

And I agree with lazycrockett about Tarentino.

The whole story within the Star Wars prequel was more about why AND how Darth Vader came to be than anything else, never mind The Clone Wars saga.

Yes, He then turned around and did DUNE for the Delaurentis... that was almost surely because of the intial lead Lucas had offered.

if i had to pick..Mr. Spielberg.

I don't care for Mr. Cameron movies, he's one of the reasons why I stop going to the movies. The Titanic was a piece of garbage and after that film most US films sucked to me. lol

^AG is a good film and its okay direction wise as is star wars, after that all bets are off. The prequals sucked in more than the directing but thats a whole different can of worms.

The thing is Lucas once he got the star wars merchandise cash, decided to create an empire instead of directing, his passion took a different route. Which I'm fine with to each his own. He has been a pioneer in special effects and projector equipment n sound. the man is a genius no questions, but he's bored as a director.

Based on Lucas's student films and his first three films, you are right, he has given up trying to put out work of rounded artistic merit in the public eye. But, like Prince, he is rumored to make his own little experiments and shorts for himself. I think his greatest mistake is in underestimating the intelligence of the world, and thinking he was right in the world stupidity by measuring his more trashy efforts' monetary success. He is like a genius who is so stuck up he only thinks that we understand pies in the face as fun film.
