Between all of the run up to the Grammys and the Super Bowl, I apparently missed the Miss America pageant. What was once a huge cultural and television event has now been relegated to a minor cable channel. But for those who missed the crowning event, here it is:



I know that the Miss America pageant is a relic of a bygone era, as you can tell by this graph of TV viewership numbers.



But apparently you can't even get noticed as a beauty pageant contestant these days unless you party and cavort topless with other women, say something totally incomprehensible during the Q&A, or advocate some controversial cause like racism or homophobia.

I didn't even know it still came on. Do they still do Miss USA? I never got why there was a Miss America and a Miss USA.
