Woodstock and Hippies. Woodstock is one of my favorite documentaries. It's whole concept was brilliant and the scenes where filmed very well. I've watched it over a dozen times, but always seem 2 find myself amazed at how on this day everyone came 2gether, in the name of love, peace and happiness. My only question is, besides Jimi Hendrix vibing in his purple haze, where there any other known black hippies? I often feel as if I was born in2 the wrong generation. The late 60's and early 70's is a time of American culture I can most definitly relate to. This was a time if the people didn't like what the white house or any gouverned officials had to say. they got their ass's up and protest the hell out of the masses. People where much more concered and passionate about the political issuees that went on in this country. They didn't feel as if they where powerless or had no voice when the U.S. gouverment made decision for the 2morrow's future.
From what I know most blacks who wanted 2 stand for something, were invovled with the black panthers. I just got finished reading this book about it's founder Huey P Newton, who was a young guy and was getting tired of how this society was ranned, however. I've been trying 2 look for info about the hippie movement.I pecifically wanted to know about any black hippies at the times, male or female. I know they where drugged up for most of the time, but I think they where still a bunch of inspiring group of color people. I mean in the movie woodstock, when all else was failing these group of people came 2gether and helped each other out, all in the name of music, love, peace and happiness. I don't think this generation could ever have that much success with woodstock as the last generation, because we're in different times fighting for a way different cause. Woodstock 94' is the perfect example . Anyways, my question is does anybody have any good books 2 read about this or any websites I can visist? | |
