Today's PSA **Update** 11 MORE pups abandoned!!!

I am sooooo pissed right now. pissed

On my way to yoga class this morning, I noticed a lil dog running along the side of a major street about to cross and get hit. I busted a U-turn and pulled into a drive and she ran right up to me and jumped in my arms and into my car. I drove around the nearby neighborhood and she obviously knew she lived there and then started crying. sad

She is THE cutest lil beagle EVAH about 7-8 months old. Babygirl, had a collar with a broken off tag, which prolly means the owner doesn't want to be found. pissed

I took her to a couple of vet's offices nearby and they didn't know her, she wasn't microchipped, and they suggested I take her to the shelter, which I ain't even trynna hear. But they said the owner may contact the shelter looking for her. Yeah, right! rolleyes

On my way to the shelter, I decide to take her to my vet and they immediately take her in. They said they'll call the shelter but won't turn her over to them. They will wait 10 days to see if the owner shows up and if not, they'll find a home for her. I didn't even know they did that. My vet rules! mushy

I just don't understand how muthafuckas can get a pet and not do the minimum needed to ensure it's safety OR be concerned about just abandoning them on the street or leaving it in a foreclosed home. How are they able to just forget this was a family member just because they hit hard times??? Some people are truly some sorry muthafuckas that shouldn't have animals, much less, children. confused

Anyway, pet owners, if you have a pet you love and care about, please make sure they have a tag with their name and your phone number on it!!! I mean, how hard is that to do??? Also, be sure to have them microchipped, it's the easiest way to ensure you'll be reunited with your pet.

If you don't want your dog, instead of letting it run loose in the streets, begging to be run over, just surrender it to a breed specific rescue organization, contact your vet for adoption options, or, as a last resort, take the dog to a shelter where at least it has a chance to find a home.

i am tempted to get the info of the vet that took her and send them a small donation.

that reminds me of that commercial of the dog talking about being a shelter dog and how he doesn't have an issue. I can't figure out how to post it.

Loser owner does not mean screwed up shelter animal all the time.

I am so glad you stopped for that baby.

;hug: You're a hero. Most people would not have given a damn. I often wonder what kind of an asshole abandons a pet. At least take it to a shelter so it gets the chance to adopted.

I drove around for an hour. Even went back to the neighborhood after I took her to my vet. She was sooooo sweet and will make someone a great pet. If I wasn't going outta town this week I woulda just brought her home with me. But I couldn't leave my sitter with FOUR dogs, including my other rescue with the issues, especially since I didn't know her at all. Plus she's in heat. disbelief

Just called my vet to check up on my lil girl and turns out the owners came and picked her up on Monday. They "claim" that they just moved to the area and she got out. The thing that pisses me off tho, is that the lady came home at lunch and saw the dog was gone and didn't go look for her. Then they waited two days before contacting the shelter who referred them to my vet. THEN these fuckas promised to bring her back for her shots, a microchip, and to be spayed and they haven't been heard from since.

our new family dog was wandering around & hanging out at my shop just before christmas...we have two dogs that stay out back...the friendliest 'watchdogs' on the planet, so I'm guessing thats why he landed here...

he's a beautiful chocolate lab, no more than a year old...he had no collar, no chip...there's a country club/golf course directly across the street from our business...I contacted as many people living there as possible and nobody claimed him...I left flyers in the pro shop as well...we share a building with a sign shop and they even placed a notice on their large outdoor sign...still, nobody claimed him...

there's not doubt in my mind that some asshole in the country club simply let him go...but he's at our home now and he's a great dog...destructive and hyper but great none the less...

mushy He's precious! I'm glad you took him in.

The vet tech told me if I see her again to just keep her. I totally wanted to but I was going outta town the next day and already have a foster.

Man, I am pissed like a mug! pissed

mad That is so wrong. If I lived near there I'd have half a mind to go steal the dog, fuck the bullshit. I can't stand lazy people when it comes to dogs. That's the reason I don't want a dog is b/c I KNOW that I may not have the time or patience to take care of them the way they need it. That's also why I keep discouraging my boyfriend from getting one b/c I don't think he would take care of it they way he should and it would just bug the crap out of me.

They are so cute!I have a cat who is about a year old that I would like to put on a leash but I get a feeling she would have none of it lol She likes being held usually, but when she wants nothing to do with us all in her space while she's trying to explore. Did you teach them to get used to the leashes when they were really young?

People are ignorant. disbelief nuff sed.

Even when they don't let them loose to get hit and whatnot, they have them tied up in their backyard suffering. It was an icestorm a few days ago and I could hear at least 4 neighbor dogs barking and howling all night for some warmth.

Meanwhile my dog was curled up all snug in his kennel next to the vent, all comfy and whatnot. My cat was howling, bbut she's stupid. I keep telling her Imma put her ass out there one day so she can appreciate what she has, shut the hell up, and let me rest (no worries for her though, I've been saying it for 11-12 years, obviously she ain't scurred confused )

I've seen some horror stories so believe me when I say....people are ignorant!

sigh

Those people are NOT gonna do any of that.... they'll just send her unwanted puppies to the animal shelter. That poor doggie probably ran away from those folks. neutral If she's smart.. she'll run away again. Bet you may even find her wandering in the same area again.

We rescued a Doberman one night that had been hit by a car. No tags. His back leg was busted in two places.

My neighbor and I took him to the Emergency Clinic. It was $1,100 to fix his leg. My neighbor said he wasn't going to pay anything, but I couldn't let the dog get the needle, so I did it.

We kept him for about three weeks, and I posted signs around the neighborhood but no one replied. So we gave him to my wife's grandmother, who lived alone. She loved Sparky (the name we gave him).

Then a guy called me. He lived in the condos across the street, and one of his buddies had seen my sign. He described the dog and yep, it was his. That was when I told him I was into the dog for about $1,300.

He swallowed hard and said if it'd been him, he wouldn't have fixed him, either. Ugh! But you know what?

The guy offered to pay me back $500 and said I could keep the dog. I thought that was pretty damn nice of him. So that's what we did, and Sparky kept Grandma company for five or six years before he passed away.

Then there was this one time I found a puppy...

...lying on the street on a dark night. I would have ran over him (not on purpose, of course) but luckily he was right in the middle of the lane, so my car went right over him and didn't touch him.

We took him to my parents' house, and he was OK. No vet bills this time! I posted signs in the neighborhood where we found him.

A couple days later, a young boy called and said it was his dog. I took him over to the boy's house, and thought that was the end of it.

But then later that day, a lady called and said it was HER dog. I told her about the little boy and she started crying. She said the boy and his brothers were thieves and had stolen her entire litter!

Wow, did I feel bad. I hope she got her dogs back.
