My cousin ordered Dominos earlier, and when I came out to get some, it straight up smelled like rotten chicken and trash, I kid you not. I am SICK of Dominos.

I don't know if these were national chains back in the day but we had Pasquale's, Gibb's, and Mr. Gatti's, all which were delicious. When the huge corporations and delivery places took over like Domino's, Papa John's, and now Pizza Hut, the others (the good ones) went out of business (I hate huge companies and that's why ). The best place back home that I used to love was either Godfather's (which I can still find at super gas stations like a MobileMart or something), and Mazzio's. LOVED the Mazzio's salad bar too.

I'm a regular call-in for delivery customer, so when I tell them my #, my address comes up. Verdi Special: Pesto (can't eat tomatoes anymore), spinach, feta cheese, onions (altho I substitute onions for chicken) "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

I noticed that Queens have the best "local" resturants. Best Jamaican food, best Indian food, best Shami(Arabic) food, best Mexican food, best Chinese/Thai food, best soul food,,,everything yummy, on my list when the heck i get my booty up there. [Edited 1/30/10 0:35am] [Edited 1/30/10 0:35am]

We're not all that fussy, but DAMN was it the worst pizza we've had in a long time too oily? they were really dry...10 minutes after I was due to pick them up but worse than that was just the sauce. The pizzas both smelled and tasted really bad. The kids refused to eat it and we actually threw away the leftovers! And in fact, my wife couldn't even keep it down... So, no more Pizza Hut for us.

ernestsewell said: Of the national chains that most of us would know about, who do you like the best? Pizza Hut is SO greasy, but it hits the spot about once a year. Love Papa John's from way back in the 90's in Tulsa. Being in NY, there's always some local place that tends to have good food, as well.
Dominos seems to be attempting new strides w/ their latest ad campaign showing focus groups dissing their crust and sauce. Of course, if you check back about 10 or 15 years ago, they were also saying "We've improved our crust with garlic butter!" They're saying the same thing now. Not much of a change, it seems, but I've not tasted their pizza in a while. Back home in Oklahoma there are Pizza Inn's, and Little Caesar's, which was always tasty (and fed a lot of people). I'd love to have some Papa John's. The closest one is across the river here, so I'd probably have to go get it, which is a good 8 miles or so. There ya go Ernest! I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I think that pizza is probably the only mainstream cuisine where the local neighborhood joint consistently hammers the big chain restaurants. With burgers, you'll have your McDonalds or Wendy's devotees, with chicken you'll have people who swear by KFC's original recipe chicken or Popeye's spicy chicken, and even with Italian food you'll have a sizable group of Olive Garden fans. But when asked about pizza, I have never seen anyone claim that the big chains (Pizza Hut, Domino's, Little Cesars, Papa John's) are better than the local neighborhood pizza place. In fact, most people who order from the big chains do so because it's either cheap, fast, have no time to wait, or need to feed a lot of people quickly on a budget. But they never claim that it tastes awesome.

I´m not really into burgers but I think that burgers are almost ALWAYS better when you buy them from a local neighborhood place. The only ones that probably come close to that are places like Fuddruckers´ or Carls´.....most chains make really bland tasting burgers these days. tell 'em! nothing like pizza made by a real Eye-talian named Luigi, Mike, or Sal in Brooklyn! And buying by the slice! THANK YOU! I'm a native "Jersey Girl," born and raised. When I came to DC for college, I couldn't find a decent hoagie or pizza to save my life. Still can't! That mess they pass off for pizza now is just dough and pasta sauce with cheese on top. Funking awful!

Speaking of burgers, I don't get all the hype and accolades for Five Guys. The burgers seem rather tasteless to me, but those boardwalk fries are the bomb, especially with vinegar! I could make a homemade turkey burger at home with more flavor and spices to it than that cardboard shit that Five Guys sells. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
