Melissa, I totally thought it looked hot when it was short and messy and wavy. There's a pic of you with that cut, smiling with your glasses on that I distinctly remember how cute you were in it.

Why thank you. biggrin

I'm not actually planning to cut it right now, just trying to decide how to style it. But it's nice to know that somebody thought it was cute short. The majority opinion after I let it grow out was "thank gawd". lol

It's cute short and you're gorgeous no matter what but your hair is just SO beautiful long, it's a shame not to wear it that way. Many women would kill for your hair.

Thanks. wink I like it long too, though the texture is definitely better suited for casual styles than for professional ones. That's my issue.

My fear with the pony thing is that if I don't straighten it (which I won't; I've got too damn much hair, and in Seattle winter weather it would just curl right back up again) it definitely won't look smooth like that. I can pull it back while it's damp to get it as tight as possible and then do big hot-rollers on the ends to smooth out the waves a bit (and do the little hair-wrap around the tie, which I like). But is that appropriate?

My problem, basically, is that I've never worked in formal/professional setting, and I don't know what women with long hair are expected to do with it. Normally I wouldn't give a fuck, but this is important and I don't want my appearance to be a distraction. shrug

I don't smooth or straighten mine. I just leave the back as is (wavy) and it looks fine.

But I do cover my elastic with my hair by wrapping it.

I guess I don't see anything less than professional about long, curly hair. shrug

Of course, I don't work in the medical profession, so I don't know if there are different views there.

I think what you've described is very pretty and presentable sounding.

I worked at teaching hospitals for years, and I saw tons of pre-med students come in for interviews. The general look was not a sleek, corporate "professional" look. It was more "I'm neat, but it didn't take me an hour to get ready because I'm busy saving motherfuckers lives!"

So I think as long as it's clean and out of your face, you will be just fine and it won't be an issue.
It's what you make it.

That's good to hear.

Thanks for the advice, kittens! I'm going blame all of you for my failure to get into medical school if things don't go well. "It was the hair!" nod grouphug

"You see, Mr. Chief of Medicine, I asked the Org...huh? What's the Org? An unofficial Prince website, not to mention the leading authority on hair and hair care products. Anyways, I asked the Org how I should wear my hair to this interview, and, trusting their advice completely, that is how I ended up putting that mullet wig on you and attempting to sexually assault you with a poodle."

Interviewed today. I think it went well.

Weather was a bit blustery today, so I went with the low ponytail and the little hair wrap around the band. Thanks, Erin. wink

Yeah, I'm having trouble finding much that shows my hair down in its natural state. The best I got is slightly damp and blowing in the wind. Ah well. lol
