I was discussing this with a friend on the phone just before Christmas. We'd both just watched a documentary on TV about pre-teen gender reassignment surgery...

Very few children are born with obvious intersex characteristics; you know, true hermaphrodites. But many of us do have typically male or typically female physical traits. It's odd that it seems to be subliminally accepted that some women are "butch" and some men are "slight", whereas differing degrees of sexual orientation are acknowledged but not accepted by the majority.

Incidentally...

I have thin wrists, a barely-defined adam's apple, a small waist and larger hips. I go in and out like a Coke bottle. But I dress carefully to hide the hourglass effect. I'm a little podgy at the moment, but when I was around 140 pounds, my hips seemed to stick out even more.
