Who Has the Best Pizza?

Of the national chains that most of us would know about, who do you like the best? Pizza Hut is SO greasy, but it hits the spot about once a year. Love Papa John's from way back in the 90's in Tulsa. Being in NY, there's always some local place that tends to have good food, as well.

Dominos seems to be attempting new strides w/ their latest ad campaign showing focus groups dissing their crust and sauce. Of course, if you check back about 10 or 15 years ago, they were also saying "We've improved our crust with garlic butter!" They're saying the same thing now. Not much of a change, it seems, but I've not tasted their pizza in a while.

Back home in Oklahoma there are Pizza Inn's, and Little Caesar's, which was always tasty (and fed a lot of people).

I'd love to have some Papa John's. The closest one is across the river here, so I'd probably have to go get it, which is a good 8 miles or so.

As for big chains...I really don't have a fave. I enjoy Pizza Shuttle (local chain) here in Norman Oklahoma. But the best pizza in Oklahoma IMO comes from a little place called Rodneys! Best pizza I have ever had!

It's been ages since I've been home to Oklahoma City, so I don't know any of the local places anymore.

I don't eat pizza that often, so when I have a taste for it I like to go to two local restaurants here in NJ.

I liked Papa John's for a little bit when they first came to town, but it got dirty and gross after a while. ill

Co-sign. Fuck them chain brand pizzas. I heard there´s this really legendary place in NYC called Grimaldi or something like that, their place in Brooklyn is supposedly THE BEST pizza place in America.

Let me see if I can find their website...I´m not sure about the name.

Nothing beats the pizza you get in NY/NJ (sorry Chicago folk boxed).
You couldn't get good pizza down here in the DC area (NY style). THANK GAWWWWWD Flippin' Pizza http://flippinpizza.com/ opened up in the area. It's pretty decent and works when we miss pizza from back Northeast.

For specialty pizza's I love Z Pizza http://www.zpizza.com/food
Their Thai Pizza... drool

Which reminds me... we NEED to take you here next time you're in town:

http://www.punchpizza.com/about/

It's the best neapolitan pizza in the states. In fact, Meryl Streep went on and on about it saying she couldn't find a better pizza in Italy.

They're my recent favorite. Love love LOVE them.

I don't eat chain pizza. Ever.

I usually avoid the chains, it's all about the local Pizza joints for me. Most of the good ones in my Neighborhood, Hard Times Pizza, Tomato Pie, Garage Pizza, & NickyD's all make decent NY thin crust. It's just plain cheese for me.

It really does. There's 2 or 3 in my immediate neighborhood. 1 sucks, 1 is great, and 1 is iffy at best.

I've tried various things in New York while I was there.
Although it was good, I couldn't figure out what made it better than other places. I couldn't tell the difference.
Even their coveted 'dirty water' hotdogs were meh.

Their Giro roach coaches were awesome though. I miss those.

Back in the 1970s and early 1980s, Pizza Hut was the best. What fucked them up is when they started the delivery service in the delivery/pickup buildings, that's when they became shitty. They barely put enough cheese to cover the crust and if you pay and order extra cheese, they put even less. I used to call the Pizza Hut Restaurant and pick one up from there and they would be decent but now they have taken all the phone numbers to the restaurants out of the phone book and have that one delivery number for all of them. The restaurant was delicious because they know they will get cussed out if it's skimpy but with the delivery, they are already gone and you're sitting there cussing to yourself with no one to listen. lol

As for the national chains, NONE of them are worth a damn. I tell them they need to fix the damn pizza like it looks on the advertisement on TV and they just laugh and fix it shitty anyway. I don't fool with them anymore. When I order pizza, I order from a local store called Pizza Shack which is delicious and has so many toppings that some of them fall off when you pick a piece up.

We usually make our own ~ fresh

I really really do not like chain piaaza joints - too much fat and grease, canned mass produced products and slapped together by people not invested usually in serving/cooking good food

just icky to me

We had a string of Pizza Inns down here for years. They were real good. Now there's only one though and it's in a suburb town where a bunch of snobs live. lol

I don't know if these were national chains back in the day but we had Pasquale's, Gibb's, and Mr. Gatti's, all which were delicious. When the huge corporations and delivery places took over like Domino's, Papa John's, and now Pizza Hut, the others (the good ones) went out of business (I hate huge companies and that's why lol ).
