Here in Toronto, 10 pedestrians have been hit and killed by vehicles in the past eight days! Everyone from a young mother pushing her baby in a stroller through the crosswalk to a senior citizen casually crossing the street with a bag of groceries. And late last year, we also had a student get mowed down on the way to school by a car. In all but a couple of cases, I believe, negligent motorists were at fault. Drivers need to realize they aren't commandeering magic carpets that delicately scoot them along from point A to B, but steel machines that weigh thousands of pounds and easily can kill lots of people. If they can't be more responsible and less distracted, they need to friggin' walk... forever... by court order, if necessary. [Edited 1/21/10 22:27pm] that's awful.. and i'm wondering now just HOW close he came to having injuries he could have died from..he told me that at the last instant he jumped up in the air.. said he didn't know why he did..the front of the car hit his foot, knocking his shoe off!! so he was on the hood and windsheild, then of course the driver slammed on his brakes(i guess he braked hard) and that flung him off the car, onto the road in a slide..mostly on his face and left side.. i walked to a wendy's close to his house to get him a frosty cuz he can't eat..and it's at a bad intersection..one i'm always careful crossing.. and watching the people fly thru made me nervous..because it's a hill you can't quite clearly see the traffic coming in.. in a line from my dream, I heard a voice and saw a silhouette in a chair..

One of my best friends (only 26) transferred from her job in Madison, WI back to Chicago. She wasn't here for more than a month when a drunk driver hit her and her two kids crossing the road. She was killed instantly as well as her 6 year old son. Her 4 year old daughter survived but is practically a vegetable. Thank the Gods he will be ok. ![]() thanks.. and i'm not sure yet.. a speeding ticket ... he admitted he was going a bout 50mph.. then later recanted and said 45mph.. my sister's not really even sure if this man had insurance on his car!!! that would be some shit wouldn't it?? and she would have to pay for the bills even tho she has medical insurance thru work..i don't know how that would work.. i see her work insurance holding off trying to get the guy's insurance to pay.. she can't get a copy of the police report til monday ..i told her to track down the info..he might have been stalling and acting that way either because he didn't have insurance OR he thinks there's a way to keep her from getting his info.. he don't know my sister tho.. if she wants to know something... I really, HONESTLY cannot stand drivers who feel the need to ignore speed limits around school zones. How hard is it to slow down and obey traffic laws to save lives? Some people just don't care.... Thank God he did survive. i agree..that's what's so awful about this crossing.. there's been many students killed here crossing the street to get to school or home..and you would think there would be more help here.. it's a high school right on the corner and it's along the way to a middle school.. but between the high school and middle school somewhere in the area is also a n elementary school..they don't cross there tho thank the gods!! but it's not any less horrible for a teenager to be killed than a kindergardener.. he could have been killed, and i'm SO glad he wasn't..she couldn't take that again..she's lost a child already..that's one too many in a line from my dream, I heard a voice and saw a silhouette in a chair..

[Edited 1/22/10 11:04am] Just a speeding ticket? NO WAY! I truly hope he is charged with much more. Reckless driving would be a nice one to tack on there. Did the officer who was there, did he not ask for insurance on this driver? I am so upset! I truly hate when people don't bother to pay attention to what is around them, and they feel speeding is okay!!! How would this person feel if it was their child that was hit by a car? I tell you people need to learn to think!! Why speed? I just don't get it!!! I am truly happy that your nephew will be okay! Thank God he wasn't hurt worse then he was. My heart goes out to you and your family! I can't imagine how your nephew feels right now. Poor guy! But make sure your sister doesn't let this guy get away with nothing more then a speeding ticket. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers! Proud Memaw to Seyhan Olivia Christine ,Zoey Cirilo Jaylee & Ellie Abigail Lillian

thank god they were all using the crosswalks This latest incident is still under investigation. There's a chance this guy might not have been using the crosswalk. From past incidents at this location, it seems both pedestrians and motorists routinely break the rules at this particular intersection in the city. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I hope that guy who is responsible for the accident gets what's coming to him. well..i think that will be in the form of my sister..i'm not sure exactly what she'll do.. but she won't let it go til she knows what she wants to know..she's getting the police report monday.. my nephew walked her and i to the spot... and explained what happened..he said the light turned green (for the man) before he finished crossing..and the guy has said he was doing 45mph.. so he must have been approaching the light when it was red,and as soon as it turned green just kept going.because we're finding it hard to visualize him being AT the red light and accelerating to 45mph by the time he crossed the intersection.. where this happened at was not inside the school zone..so he wasn't technically speeding, i don't think but as i've said..i believe the man drives this route every (work) day possibly and if he does he knows there is a school zone crossing less than a quarter mile from the intersection.. we'll see.. arron(my nephew) told me yesterday he was feeling much better body wise,it's his face and the road rash that's painful..i could only handle taking those 2 pics here..he's trying to eat solids even tho it hurts. and he's planning on going to school monday.. in a line from my dream, I heard a voice and saw a silhouette in a chair..
