My grandbabies are moving to Germany!

Today my eldest Christina told me her hubby Cody received orders and now they are moving to Germany in June. I am happy and sad about this move for them. Happy because my daughter and grandbabies will get to experience another country, sad because my sweet grandbabies and my daughter won't be here with me any longer. bawl I know it's her family and she needs to live her life, but my heart is hurting. I have never been away from my daughter, she has always lived less then 30 mins from me. I knew this day would come, but it doesn't hurt any less.

So...do I have any fellow orgers who live near Germany? Any orgers who have had to deal with their kids moving across an ocean from them?

I am happy for her too. It's a chance to do things and see things that she has always wanted to do. I just hate the idea of my Seyhan and Zoey so far from me.

There aren´t that many American military bases left here in Germany. Most of them are in the beautiful south (nice landscape but the culture is not my thing, I love the north). Be glad it´s Germany, they could have been deployed to far worse places.

Come over and visit them (and me) here in Germany. wink

You're quite lucky that you have skype these days.

When I moved to Germany the only way to contact the states why by way of very expensive phone calls or to call from a Germany base over to an American base nearby a residence and have the base "switch" the call over to a local number nearby (and you were only allowed a 10 minute 'free' call that way).

Now with skype you can talk for as long as you want, and all bases are wired with fast Internet.

I would look at this as an opportunity to visit one of my very favorite countries on the cheap, Moni. At good times, you can find a roundtrip flight to stuttgart or Frankfurt from Dallas for $550 sometimes (not often, but sometimes). And your son will be given the option of a free round-trip ticket once a year (if he's Air Force--not sure about the other branches), which cuts down on the expenses of visiting.

Also, Germany is a much safer place to raise a family than the USA, so you can rest easy knowing they should be o.k.

It doesn't get rid of the anxiety and pain of being separated, but I would say it makes it much easier with technology today.

If you don't mind me asking, how did your Mom handle things? I feel like I am going to lose my mind. Christina & I have never really been apart except for the 30 mins in her adult life. She has been by my side since I was 15. Then not to mention not seeing my grandgirls as often as I do now.

She said they will be moving to Geilenkirchen, I don't know much about this place. But you are right...could have been worse for sure.

And to finally meet an orger woot!

Yes first thing I thought about was Skype and now days it will be much better for me to keep in touch with my daughter and my sweet angels. I have always wanted to go to Europe, maybe this will be my chance. hug
