Why are they so disliked? (Indians that is)

I mean, indian food is often the only good food in some small English towns. Hell, in the city of Cardiff, it was the only good food there too. lol

But it seems there's this underlying, almost acceptable racism against them. Didn't Prince Harry himself have a 'paki" slipup?

Interesting question. There was an undercover documentary on police a couple of years back and I was surprised at how much more venom they had for indians and pakistanis than they did for black people.

It could be that the Indians have been very successful, taking over a lot of the corner shops and also doing very well in the medical profession, and as a whole I think they have integrated far less than black people. This combination could possibly have made them more of a threat to certain sections of society.

I went to a very mixed school and all the black and white boys hung out together, whereas the Indian or Bangladeshi kids just hung out in closed groups.

The food is loved across the country. A lot of Indian restaurants on a Friday night are full of pissed-up white guys downing the hottest curry possible and generally being rude to the staff, especially in those 'small towns' you speak of.

Recently of course, religion difference has contributed to an already difficult situation.

Yeah, Harry did slip- up there, but he's cute as fuck and wears a uniform so he can call me what he damn well pleases.

Completely different here in Houston, Texas, USA. The Indians are considered to be a "harmless" minority that is usually professional. The kids are just completely Americanized, but there are large clicks of the same ethnicity in the schools and colleges. When I was in school I was one of maybe two indian kids in the whole school, so I didn't have much cultural immersion or identification to Indian roots.

You, my dear, are a superstar. Never forget it.

On topic:

People lumping "Asians" into one category has always confused me. Geographically, we have the Orient and the Occident, divided by the end of the Meditteranean, so by that definition, Turks, Indians, Bangladeshi, etc are all also "Asian" by definition.

Now the modern "Western" media has taken the stereotypical Sino-Mongol looks and this qualifies as "Asian" to most people, including overseas born Asians. The fact is, you wouldn't consider a Lithuanian and an Irishman to be even remotely similar, but in the Asian continent there is even MORE diversity than in Europe.

Look at the differences between Indonesia, Malaysia and Japan, for example. Japan as it is today is a fairly young nationality, being a combination of Mongol immigrants and the original local Ainu culture. Few people realise that the Ainu are very very similar to south-western russians and similar peoples and are much closer to them than the Mongolian races. There are even theories that they may be closely related to northern Native Americans!!!! When the Mongolians came and to an extent interbred, they have created the Modern Japanese people. Indonesians are soooo varied as to be incredibly different from island to island. I once worked with a Balinese Indonesian (who I luckily went skinnydipping with...another story lol ) who was constantly being mistaken for Polynesian!!! In Malaysia you have a combination of races from the tradional Sino-Chinese to the Tamils from Sri Lanka to the native Malay races. It's a wonderful multicultural country.

My fella is from Fukuoka, on the Japan Sea, so close to Korea that you can actually SEE Pusan when the weather permits. So he looks similar to a "Korean" to some people. And yes....he's Asian but also quite hairy lol

I grew up with two Thai cousins, adopted by my Uncles. They weren't "traditional" Thai as they came from a Chinese background. Fauxie would be able to tell us lots about the differences between the Thai people, the Karen or Hmong (Viet-Thai????) for example.

Soooo much variety, sooo many different languages and culture (yes, there really is NO such thing as a "Chinese" language). Korean and Tibetan follow very similar patterns. Japanese and Korean have more grammatical relation to Turkish and Finnish than they do to Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog or any local language.

Bloody fascinating continent, sadly stereotyped and debased by a usless narrow-minded media.

wow.,....what a long-winded comment. Sorry everyone...lost myself for a moment there. Carry on..... lol

Your post is very interesting and on point....especially the parts about language. I used to teach Turkish and my best students were Japanese people. They also share a few cultural similarities. And I´ve also heard about the connection with the Mongolians and the Native Americans before ( I read it in a book I bought in Turkey) but I didn´t know that the Mongolian people and the Japanese were related.
Just one thing I would like to add though....you´re right about Turks being part of the Asian group geographically speaking, and maybe also ethnically but keep in mind that the ethnic structure in Turkey has changed drastically in the past 200 years. Many people came from the Balkans (Albanians, Bosnians, converted Greeks, some Arabs, the Laz, people from the Caucasus region, even some Polish and Russian and Latvian and Lithuanian people who somehow ended up in the eastern parts of Turkey, a lot of intercultural marriages, Ottoman Africans ( I have a few black uncles but they don´t really consider themselves as Africans anymore because their ancestors have been living in Turkey for more than 300 years), lots of Jewish immigrants from Spain who sought refuge in the Ottoman Empire during the Inquisition (Sephardi Jews...most of them later moved to Israel though but there are still some left in Turkey with dual citizenships), immigrants from Bulgaria who are ethnic Turks but who intermarried with people from the Balkans, etc. etc.

Just wanted to add this to your excellent and very informative post.

Interesting. I had Indian friends at Primary school (where like you there were only a couple), but at secondary they didn't mix at all. I later had Indian/Pakistani friends in adult life, who are still very dear. Never had an Indian lover though confused

Well, since you said "no politically correct bullshit" then I'm about to be politically incorrect ( to a degree) and some of you may not like it. Of course I don't give a shit what people think unless I'm trying to fuck them, fix them up with one of my friends, borrow money, or go shopping with them...then your opinion is of the utmost importance! lol

Okay enough of my silly humor...

When I think of Asians, which is not all that often, I think of:

How sad it is that the Chinese in China kill girl babies, piss in the open, pick their noses, manufacture synthetic hair and have such an easy time opening businesses and buying property in the US. I also think their ethnic clothes are quite beautiful and how cool their martial arts movies are. I also think of Bruce Lee.

How sad it is that the Japanese became more skilled at electronics than the U.S and we're the ones that gave them the blueprints. I also think of sushi, which I can't get enough of, and how beautiful their ehtnic clothes are. I think of Tokyo which is unbelievably clean despite having so many damn people living there. I think of how lovely Japanese women are and how rather plain the men are.

How sad it is that every Vietnamese person I've ever met has been so scrawny like they don't ever eat and how they've had a bad habit of picking their noses. I think of the little old Vietnamese lady I saw throwing rocks at pigeons perched on top of doorwars and in trees and when they fell, she just picked them up and put them in her satchel. I thnk of nail salons. I think how lovely Viet Nam looks in travel mags...all the beautiful green grass.

How much taller and light skinned Koreans tend to be compared to other Asians. I thnk of Korean BBQ. I think of how many Koreans in California are in interracial relationships.

I think how odd it is that Indians are considered Asians and Russians/Afghans/Armenians are not considered Asians. All nations are on the Asian continent, all nations have a small group of indigeneous peoples that fit the asthetic of an Asian (yellow skin, black hair, slant eyes, somewhat flat face), yet none of these peoples look Asian.

I don't think of Laotians, Taiwanese, Hmong, or Cambodians.

How sad it is that Thailand has such a high child exploitation/prostitution
problem.

that's my politically incorrect but basically valid contribution to this thread.

peace

I just realized that I am largely ignorant of what it even means
to be Asian. I mean, I've classified myself as Asian for ages.
But I'm starting to realize just how 'different' Asians are from
one another when you break them down by ethnic groups and nationalities.

They used to "look all the same" to me. I couldn't tell a Korean apart
from a Thai from a Chinese. And on T.V. ads and Internet adds,
I can't really tell them apart even now (this is largely because most
Asian cultures copy the Japanese or Koreans) so even though Thais
are of several different 'colors', only the Korean-looking or Japanese-looking
models ever get shown on T.V. or ads.

But in real life, I'm starting to tell the difference between them.
I'm starting to realize just how off-the-mark even my Asian ass is
about what it means to be Asian.

and when I step back, I ask myself, "what does it mean?' WHAT DOES IT MEAN?"

Hell, I don't know.

Yall black folks reading this---did you have any type of introspection
where you didn't know what the hell it meant to be black in America?

I met the first hairy Asian guy I've ever known today. I just stared
at him thinking to myself, "Is he mixed?". Apparently he's not mixed.

Anyways, I'm rambling.

What are your honest non politically correct opinions of Asians?

Mods, please try and be tolerant to any posts that may seem 'offensive'.
I'm not looking to incite a race riot. I'm just trying to get at the truth
of perceptions. If I can be so far off the mar, and I'm even Asians, I know
damned well others here have been too.

For those of you who don't want to reveal your own opinions just pretend
a family members has those opinions and post those. thanks.

(Bolded part) No. I always knew what it was like to be Black in America. In regards to Asians. Hmm... I'll pass on my opinion of Asians for now.

Some of the worst acting I have ever seen comes from Asians in Holywood movies. I cant name any LOL but just in general. Are there a lack of great asian actors in Hollywood? I admit this was more in the 80's and early 90's when they were either green grocers or henchmen LOL. Iam sure they get fucked over in hollywood, as minorities often do LOL.

Iam not doubting the whole Asian race as bad actors bytheway lol

oh lawd, go to youtube and search for "Thai Soapopera"

Trust me....it'll be even WORSE than your wildest imagination.

One time I was flipping channels and my eyes flew OUT OF MY HEAD from what I saw. It was a tragic scene where people are crying all over the place and I saw tears coming from one of the actors scalp! lol

I think this whole thing of lumping people into categories like race or continents is sooooo passé....these days, there are so many people in interracial relationships or who happen to have a very mixed background, or who are ethnically of "European" or whatever descent but happen to live in other continents (sometimes for almost a century), and even within those continents you have such huge differences when it comes to looks, language groups or religions and traditions.

Because there are over 900 million Indians and 1 billion Chinese, I've come to the realization Asians outnumber everyone else by at least 2 to 1 if not more. Ergo, I've decided to incite a race war since it works out in my favor.

Hah, I've noticed that too on the subway.

Growing up, all Asians were referred to as Chinese by my family. And that's because pretty much all the Asians that settled in Trinidad were Chinese. My mother's side of the family is part Chinese too so that might have something to do with it. Chinese were all we knew.

One of my dearest and longest friendships (about 15 years) is Korean. We were makeup artists together. All I've ever known is she's fierce and that Me love her long time. mushy I can't distinguish many Asians' backgrounds at first glance. I'd have to actually talk to the person and learn from them. Most around me are Korean, the next town over is actually referred to as "Little Korea".
