I just had a phone interview out of the blue for a job I applied for and I was a rambling idiot! It was awful ( at least to me) and I repeated myself etc.

Have you guys had this happen to you?

My hands are shaking now as I type I was so damn nervous.

I had a 2 hour phone interview with 3 techs quizing the shit out of me.
Fortunately, it was for a job in which I was more skilled and experienced
than all 3 of the techs, so I sort of PWNED the interview.

But I didn't get the job in the end cause of the money I was asking for. confused

At any rate, I like phone interviews.

One of them asked me, "an application which uses a a specific version of a .dll, but you're getting errors when you run the application. You've managed to track it down to an API call to the .dll. Where do you look?"

His answer was, "In the system path of Windows XP/Vista"

My answer was, "in the directory the executable resides in first."

He then 'corrected' me.

At which point, I 'corrected' him, by stating that an application which makes an API call will automatically look in the folder it resides in first for the .dll. Then it checks the windows, system, and system32 directories, before finally look at the system path variable in Windows XP. Ergo, if you have the wrong version of the .dll in the originating executable's directory, it will barf no matter what the system path states, because it never gets to the point of reading the path."

At which point, there was a long silence, then one of the techs in the background said, 'that might be the problem we're facing with the Oracle client upgrade." lol

I would have really wished they gave me the job though. It would have saved me alot of heartache last year. confused

You maybe didn't get the job because you threatened them. No one wants to recruit someone who can do their job better than them...

Best advice is to come across as a complete moron at interviews.

I had one from London a few years ago (via a temping agency)

Everything was fine, I got asked the usual same stuff like during a basic interview. I guess the recruiting officer wanted to check if I was fluent enough.
Is there any place of refuge one can flee from this insanity

Phone interviews are oky, as long as its not thrust upon you.

a set time is ideal, like you would get if you had a face-to-face

good luck Mihad hug

I think I would feel so much more comfortable with a phone interview instead of a face to face...I get incredibly nervous at almost anything dealing with talking to a stranger face to face. lol Unless they are someone who is acting idiotic towards me then I have no problem telling them off.

Oh man...I think I'M rambling. eek

Strangely enough, I got my very first one this morning when the phone rang at 9:15 AM. Not a terribly pleasant surprise to wake up to a job interview though. I couldn't form an intelligible sentence for at least two minutes.

Why? lol

I seldom wear anything when I sleep. I'm not sure about last night though, as it's gotten quite cold.
