Who's filed their tax returns? I pulled my W-2s out of the mailbox an hour ago and my taxes (fed and state) are filed. Should get my refunds in time for my vacation! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I am hoping that I will get my W-2's soon. Did you do them yourself or have them done for you? Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

I do them myself. My return isn't that complicated. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Me neither, but as soon as I get them, I'm doing my taxes right away. Hopefully, I'll get a decent refund, but I never get too much money back. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Wow, you're good. Mine's always complicated, and I usually have a few clients who wait until the very last day--and sometimes later--to send me the forms. I'll probably file sometime in March.

Ex-Moderator | I got my W2 this week, and normally I'd have done it already as usually it's SUPER easy for me to file. I've only ever done the EZ form. I bought my condo this year, though, so I have to figure out what all I need for that.
I get my first time home buyer tax credit! I can't WAIT! |

I am thinking of just using my last pay check to do mine. I am expecting a sweet return. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

You can use that to do a preliminary form, but I wouldn't file 'til you have the W-2 in hand. The W-2 will prorate any withholding for the days between your last paycheck and the end of the year. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I get my first time home buyer tax credit! I can't WAIT! Yeah, the first tax filing after you buy a place can be a little confusing. Basically, you need a 1040 and a Schedule A (which is the form for itemizing your deductions). There are lots of online filing options. For the last couple years, I've used a site called express1040.com Very easy site to use - they guide you right through the process, picking the forms you need to file automatially. They even save your W-2 information from year to year. So if you don't change employers, you can just update your salary and withholding, without filling in all the employer name, address all over again. Then they file your return for you, giving the option of buying a hard copy for your records or just downloading a PDF for free. For my state return, Wisconsin actually has online filing at the Department of Revenue site. So I can always file that for free. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

It is not the withholding that is an issue but the box 1(federal income) and box 5(medicare) are different as some of my pre-tax spending is taxed by medicare. I did it 2 years ago and I was off some but the refund was the same. But I am expecting the w2 today. But for all of you that have pretty simple returns, the IRS.gov web site will direct you to places that will let you fill and efile for free. And that with direct deposit can get a refund back by the 29th. I have used taxAct and HandR Block free file. both walk you through the process. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

I get my first time home buyer tax credit! I can't WAIT! Sometimes the first year you buy the taxes and intrestes are not enough to help you. But the on line services will walk you through that. Go to the www.irs.gov (one of the old urls that seems to not work with out the WWW) and look for the "free file" link on the right side. It will help you find site to file for free. Even if she only has the credit for a new home purchase (and she certainly has at least some mortgage interest, her state income tax withholding and probably some property taxes), she'll do better itemizing. And that first time buyer is also taken off the 1040. But you are correct, it is best to do both and see which one get you a better refund. I just did mine and it is bigger than what I was thinking. But that could change if I guess wrong on my box 1 info. But I think it is correct at least within a few dollars. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

Owing money to the government sucks. Last year, I had to pay money to the State of Ohio (which I have NEVER had to do, in all the 20+ years that I have been working). I was sooooo pissed!!!! RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

You all should be happy to pay taxes. Those poor bankers need our love. All you others say Hell Yea!!

I am still waiting on one W-2. I prefer to get a minimal refund or pay a bit because that means my money is working harder for me in my high interest savings and investment accounts. Since the government doesn't pay interest on the taxes they withhold, if you get a huge refund it's like you're loaning the government money interest free. No thanks.

I don't see it that way. The way I see it, the banks have more money to give out for loans to people who can't afford to pay it back then I'll ever have in my wildest dreams. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I do them myself. My return isn't that complicated. I would love to do them myself, but when it comes to the babysitting income I made I really don't know where to put it. They consider it self employment income since the people that pay me don't take any taxes or anything out. I usually end up going to H&R Block, but when i did last year I ended up paying them almost $200 to do them plus I owed. I am peeved, I did mine last night and then they told me that the IRS will not even start to accept e files until Monday. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

Well the IRS accepted my return so on the 29th I should get s NICE return. I did guess on the BOX 1 number but as it accepted the box 5 as being close enough and I used the same method to guess last year and that was correct I am sure I got it right now this year. I was more nervous that the site I used make a mistake, but I did it again on a 2nd site and it was the same.
