2elijah said: 2elijah said: That's true. They should be more prepared on an international basis, to know how to have a more in-depth plan to deal with situations like this. It's a shame that they couldn't even have food and water drops, like they did for the India earthquake victims. I'm not sure if they were leary in doing so because they knew that Haiti had some political unrest and was afraid there would be violence with people fighting to get the supplies. Who knows, but they should have found some way to get there much sooner. My question is where is the President of Haiti hiding? He already knows that many Haitians despise him, so he more than likely was in some secret location. President Obama, I heard, tried several times to reach him. I believe I heard he got to speak to him either yesterday or today. MSNBC showed the President helping out at one of the makeshift clinics yesterday. He said he has nowhere to stay since the palace was destroyed, but yeah, Obama finally reached him today. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Here's the letter sent to the President about granting TPS to Haitians living in the U.S. apparently President Obama did grant them TPS:
http://kerry.senate.gov/c...?id=321508 Kerry, Kirk, Colleagues Urge President to Grant Temporary Protected Status to Haitians Living in U.S. in Wake of Devastating Earthquake FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 13, 2010 CONTACT: Boston Press, 617-565-8519 BOSTON - In the wake of Tuesday's devastating earthquake in Haiti, Senators John Kerry and Paul Kirk, together with 13 of their colleagues, today sent a letter to President Barack Obama urging him to grant Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to Haitian nationals currently living in the U.S. TPS is often granted to nationals of a country who are temporarily unable to safely return to their homeland because of armed conflict or a natural disaster. Deporting Haitians at this time would inhibit the Haitian government's ability to recover from the earthquake and worsen an already dire humanitarian situation. "The people of Haiti are in a desperate situation after deadly hurricanes just 18 months ago and now a massive earthquake. Our assistance must be generous and sustained and we should also protect the Haitian nationals peacefully living and working in the United States. They should not be forced to return to a ravaged homeland where their basic human needs cannot be met. Along with my senate colleagues, I am pushing for Temporary Protected Status just like we have for others facing similar crises - it is the only fair thing to do," said Senator Kerry, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. "I'm deeply saddened by the devastation that has occurred in Haiti. Like many of my colleagues, I know that now is not the time to send Haitians back to their country. Their country has been devastated, and I believe that the President should grant Temporary Protected Status to Haitians who are currently in the United States. Haiti meets the criteria for this status, and this is the first of many ways we can help the Haitian people in the days an

Unfortunately, Dr. Sanjay Gupta is the only doctor left there. From what I heard the doctors that came there earlier today left. The news just doesn't seem to be getting any better. I certainly hope they get some doctors in there tomorrow.

Are you serious! There was no one to relieve them when they left? Yes, that is what I was watching on CNN at that time, around 11:00apm. while General Honore' was at the CNN studio, speaking to Anderson Cooper, who is over in Haiti, and they were both in shock, and Anderson said he thought that when the doctors were there earlier today, and some supplies came in, that the doctors would be there all night. I have no idea what happened. Maybe they were afraid to stay when it got dark. Anderson had to tell General Honore' (the one who came in with the military during Hurricane Katrina) that they would have to speak "offline" because Anderson had no answers for him, and looked embarassed because he didn't know what was going on either. Can you imagine the people who still didn't get any water/food/medical help today? Desperation is definitely setting in for many of the victims. I heard that the supplies, i.e. food/water was not getting around to many of the people. Something is just not working out, and it seems they're apparently still having issues getting basic needs to the people. I am praying the rain doesn't come because they said if it does, it will cause mud slides. This is such a nasty disaster.

The Canadian federal government will match donations from Canadians to build an emergency fund up to $100 million to help humanitarian efforts in Haiti.
My family and I are all donating as much as we can. I wish I can donate all of my son's clothes that he has outgrown (I've kept all of it since his birth) but so far only money is being accepted.

That was more than likely the Haitian police that's been in the crowd since the earthquake happened.. You have to remember that some prisoners escaped when the earthquake happened and one has already been killed. [Edited 1/18/10 13:09pm]
