I was so saddened by the images shown on CNN. A child about 4 or 5 laying on the floor dead. That broke my heart. The U.S. is donating 10 million dollars to Haiti, and I'm sure many organizations are rounding up to get help out there. The sad thing is, the water systems throughout the Caribbean has never been that great. They can't run the water in their homes, like we do in the U.S. for long periods of time. My first concern is the heat, the dead bodies, lack of water, food, shelter, first aid for the wounded, food for the babies, the elderly in nursing homes, and the list goes on.

I'm going to try and donate as much as I can. I'm not rich, but those people are suffering way more than I can complain about anything in my situation. Such a shame what a natural disaster can do to the lives of people.

I have to give CNN a hand for being the only station giving constant coverage and information, so families that live in the states and other countries, can at least know what is going on.

That asshole is crazy. So he blames human beings for fighting against enslavement, and believes they were cursed ever since they were brave enough to fight for their freedom against their captors??lol So technically he just admitted that Blacks should be slaves, and the Haitians should not have fought against it. Then he says they've been cursed ever since. So if Haiti has been cursed ever since, like that fool claims, then what does that say about the years of fighting between Israelis and Palestinians? Are they both cursed too? What an idiot That man should be committed for insanity, because whatever God he prays to cannot be a God of love.

I heard about that on Keith Olberman's show, and Keith smacked it back to him and Rush Limbaugh, who made all kinds of nasty comments about Haitians, and commented about Obama and Blacks:

This is what that idiot rush said:
http://mediamatters.org/r...1001130047
LIMBAUGH: Yhey'll use this to burnish their -- shall we say -- credibility with the black community, in the both light-skinned and dark-skinned black community, in this country. It's made-to-order for 'em. That's why he couldn't wait to get out there. Could not wait to get out there.

Well Pat Robertson made a dumbass statement and said Haiti basically deserved the earthquake because they fought against enslavement by the French. So in his opinion, anyone who fights against enslavement will be cursed for doing so. What a very sick man.

ACTUALLY, Robertson isn't entirely pulling that out of his ass..

Have you ever heard how some preachers or theologians try to explain the unspeakable misery that is crippling most of Haiti's population of 8 million? Everywhere you go, from your television screen to the Internet, what you are most likely to find is a reference to a spiritual pact that the fathers of the nation supposedly made with the devil to help them win their freedom from France. As a result of that satanic alliance, as they put it, God has placed a curse on the country some time around its birth3, and that divine burden has made it virtually impossible for the vast majority of Haitians to live in peace and prosperity in their land. Surprising, right?

The satanic pact allegedly took place at Bois-Caïman near Cap-Haïtien on August 14, 1791 during a meeting organized by several slave leaders, under Dutty Boukman's leadership, before launching what would become Haiti's Independence War. This brutal period lasted 13 years until the last survivors of the French expeditionary forces, dispatched to Saint-Domingue with the sole purpose to re-establish slavery, were allowed by Dessalines to leave the island and return to Napoleon. Those who made it safely to France wrote and reported about the utmost bravery and supreme courage of Haiti's indigenous army.

Obviously, the idea that Haiti was dedicated to Satan prior to its independence is a very serious and profound statement with potentially grave consequences for its people in terms of how they are perceived by others or how the whole nation is understood outside its borders. One would agree that such a strong affirmation should be based on solid historical and scriptural ground. But, although the satanic pact idea is by far the most popular explanation for Haiti's birth as a free nation, especially among Christian missionaries and some Haitian Church leaders, it is nothing more than a fantasist opinion that ultimately dissipates upon close examination.

In late April, President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, a former Catholic priest, declared voodoo an officially recognized religion. It's a move that some Christians in the chronically poor nation of 7.5 million people say is an ominous sign.

http://www.freerepublic.c...7900/posts

Recently a group of evangelical Haitian pastors met to plan a National Day of Prayer in an effort to counter a celebrated day of witchcraft that will take place August 14. This date is celebrated annually as the Boukman sacrifice. Boukman was a former slave who used voodoo as the medium to rally other slaves to revolt by sacrificing a pig, drinking its blood and thus forming a pact with the devil (voodoo gods). In this pact, the Haitians gave their land to the devil for 200 years in exchange for freedom from the white French oppression.

Many Haitians still believe that it was because of Boukman that they have their independence today, but they are believing a lie. Haiti is the poorest nation in the western hemisphere. If I could take you to Haiti with me, you wouldn't see freedom at all. But you would see bondage, hopelessness and despair.

rose BTW, IMHO... I am glad that Obama isn't doing Haiti the same way Bush did New Orleans.

Over 800,000 Haitians live in my city, help and aid is being resourced from the local drives to help out the victims. Thank goodness. pray

Absolutely not. Robertson pulled this stuff out of the ass of other dominionist/triumphalist "evangelical" charlatans who bounce off of one-another. What their drivel fails to acknowledge, though, is, as Dr. Gelin points out, no evidence for such a pact has ever been presented. Moreover, why's it so tough to believe (or sell) that a successful insurrection by former slaves could be attributed not to some infernal intervention, but to courage, balls, superior military strategy and -- gasp omfg -- maybe even the hand of the God these "Christians" (and any of their scriptural prophets) will tell you historically sides with the oppressed?!?

Nah... can't be. If these niggas kicked Euro butt, they had to have been helped by none other than Satan!! shake

And Haitian Vodou should be an officially recognized religion by virtue of its regular congregational life, recognized clerical hierarchy, codified doctrines, etc. It simply is an established religion like any other, whether those beyond its membership acknowledge it or not.

Scientologists and Wiccans are members of religions officially recognized in the United States. Doesn't mean the entire country is contracted to their governing spiritual powers. shrug

WorldHelp.net

http://74.125.47.132/sear...=firefox-a

This annual day is celebrated religiously only by Haiti's Vodousant minority and by some other Haitians as a largely secular folk festival, not unlike St. Patrick's Day.

Notwithstanding the fact the Haitian Vodou pantheon is a far cry from the Christian Satan, a good 95% of Haitians are not Vodousants, but Christian (80% Catholic; 15% Protestant) -- and have been for centuries. And even in our most superstitious imagination, the term of the supposed Boukman Pact of 1791 (for which, again, evidence is never forthcoming) would have been up in 1991... and since then there;ve been successive days of prayer held simultaneously by Haitian Christians. A more notable one was held in 1997 and detailed by conservative Christian writer Tom Barret in an article "Government Of The Devil, By The Devil, And For The Devil,” in the publication American Daily. He writes:

On 14 August 1997, God’s people in Haiti experienced a historic victory over Satan, a milestone in winning our country back for God. The reason lies in history. The slaves brought here from Africa have suffered incredibly for many years. On 14 August 1791, a slave leader by the name of Boukman called a secret meeting in a wood called Bois-Caiman near Cap Haitien, which was attended by a large number of slaves. They celebrated a satanic ceremony, sacrificing a pig and drinking its blood, swore to serve the Devil and dedicated Haiti to him. For 206 years, Bois-Caiman was a very holy place, a high place which could only be entered by witch doctors during Voodoo ceremonies. For 206 years, they have been meeting there every August 14 to sacrifice to Satan.

A number of Christian leaders, including Paul and Gerald Clerie of Vision: Haiti and Christian leaders among the large numbers of Haitians in the USA, Canada, France and other countries, called Christians to unite on 14 August 1997 to pray and fast that Haiti would return to God. In Haiti’s towns, villages and mountains, Christians came together to fast and pray, held victory marches in the streets and a large event in the capital from 6am to 10pm during the holy invasion.

Our church members started their march in front of the President’s palace and marched for 6 hours to the place where the satanic ceremony took place 206 years ago. We had informed the government and media of our intentions weeks before the event, and were told that the witch doctors would be there, as they were every year. When we arrived, they had hidden themselves, unable to directly confront the Christians. It was a significant spiritual battle to reach the tree under which the pig was sacrificed in the original ceremony. We formed a Jericho march, circling the magic tree seven times. On the seventh time around, God gave many people a vision of the Devil fleeing from the area. The Christians were overjoyed. We cancelled the satanic contract and broke the curse, before celebrating communion and dedicating the area as a place of prayer. We also declared 14 August to be a national prayer day, on which people should pray that Haiti will return to God.

On the same day, several witch doctors were saved during the events in the capital. Three days after our holy invasion, the witch doctors returned to Bois-Caiman to bring their sacrifices and call on the spirits. After days of effort, nothing happened, because we had commanded the spirits never to return and dedicated the area to Christ.

The witch doctors complained to the government and media. At first, the government also protested, speaking in a press release of ‘terrible damage to a Voodoo holy place in which no Christian had set foot for 206 years.’ By the grace of God, the government relented and respected our legal right as Haitians to gather at any place on Haiti, including Bois-Caiman, where they now allow all Christian groups to meet. The place is now very popular, and local Christians gather there daily for prayer and fasting. All Haitians now know that the country no longer has a pact with the Devil; the contract has been cancelled, the curse broken.

confuse After all this, you'd think God would get over it.

Lamma is an org treasure, that's for sure.

It's funny how the world calls upon moderate Muslims to denounce their fanatics but no such denunciation has been forthcoming from Christian leaders regarding their own extremists.
