That explains it. I did notice that Conan was surprisingly even more unfunny than he was on his previous show. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

Conan and his crew just apparently didn't garner high ratings like Leno. Jay earned the most viewers of all late-night talk shows for 11 straight seasons, and Conan lost majority of them after a few months, lol. And the only reason Jay's show is failing as well is because of that bad time slot. Conan is not the best successor for that show, and that's just it. Nope. Leno threatened to go to another network to blackmail his way to the 10:00 slot. And to save another reply, Leno was firmly in 2nd place until he got Hugh Grant right after his blowjob. That turned the tide for Leno and NBC had given him 2 years in 2nd place before that. Do you know which network? It couldn't have been CBS or ABC. Those seem to be the only channels that would have made that threat worrisome for NBC execs. The primetime slots on CBS and ABC are over-filled, lol, and with Letterman and Kimmel, I don't think Jay could have started a successful late-night contract with either of those stations. Unless, the threat regarded Comedy Central, but that network has a limited, cable-only audience. Was it the CW network? ^ Actually ABC fishes for a replacement to nightline bout every 2 to 3 years, they were trying to woo Letterman in 2007. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

http://tv.yahoo.com/news/...o_o_brien; Jay Leno turned serious on his show to discuss the late-night chaos at NBC, telling viewers that he'd been doubtful about launching a prime-time show but was prevented by NBC from going to another network instead. Leno, in explaining events from his standpoint, also said Monday that he had told NBC he'd return to the "Tonight" slot only after Conan O'Brien rejected the network's plan to put both men on in late night. NBC continued negotiations Monday on an exit deal with O'Brien that would clear the way for Leno to reclaim the 11:35 p.m. EST slot occupied by "Tonight," which he hosted for 17 years before turning it over to O'Brien last spring. Howard Stern played Jay's "announcement" back in 2004 when NBC announced Conan would take TONIGHT in 2009. Jay had held the job for 12 years at that point and said he would stand aside and congratulated Conan for taking it on in 2009. He had 8 months left on his contract in June of 2009 - he said NBC would not let him out of his contract so he accepted the 10:00pm slot and re-upped with NBC. He failed miserably at 10 and was responsible for the crash of ratings for both the local news affiliates which dominoed and contributed to Conan's lower ratings. Jay should have walked away in June of 2009 - he acted like he was looking out of this staff but now what about Conan's staff who all relocated? I don't buy his nice guy position - and I think his shows are boring as hell. VOTE....EARLY

Alrighty, thanks. That actually would have been comical. I bet Jay would have worn Larry's suspenders and glasses during the first episode. I cannot believe how NBC fucked this up. It really shows the difference between Leno & Conan. Conan quit rather than ruin the format of the Tonight Show and messing with Jimmy Fallon's show. Leno had no problem picking at the bones after the smoke had cleared. "Sure I'll take the 11:30 slot if no one else does!" My Legacy

I just don't understand why NBC couldn't put the same shows on whenever they wanted.
If the wanted to put Conan on at 12, couldn't they have simply chosen to do it without it affecting Conan's production? I mean, does the Simpsons being on at 8 on Sunday really affect the making of the show? My Legacy

I'm with Conan, and I think he showed a lot of character by sticking to what he felt was right. I only wonder why NBC couldn't just put it on whenever they wanted. In Chicago it's on at 10:30, right (central & mountain time)? I figure as long as they pay Conan to make the show isn't it up to NBC to decide when it airs? My Legacy
