Just last week Tobey Maguire was talking about SM4 saying it was being pushed back due to production of "Thor"...

I'm not thrilled about this.

I love Spiderman but number three was too long. I don't mind a fresh approach.

I think a reboot also means that they want to film it in 3D.

Actor Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi are graciously departing the 'Spider-Man' franchise after three blockbuster films -- and a re-boot of the franchise is already in the works. Read on for the web-slinging details!

"Working on the Spider-Man movies was the experience of a lifetime for me," says Raimi. "While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job."

Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced Monday that Peter Parker is going back to high school in a new take on the Spidey series "that focuses on a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises." The next 'Spider-Man' movie is scheduled to hit theaters in the summer of 2012.

On the decision and new direction of the franchise, Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal says, "A decade ago we set out on this journey with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire and together we made three Spider-Man films that set a new bar for the genre. When we began, no one ever imagined that we would make history at the box office and now we have a rare opportunity to make history once again with this franchise. Peter Parker as an ordinary young adult grappling with extraordinary powers has always been the foundation that has made this character so timeless and compelling for generations of fans. We're very excited about the creative possibilities that come from returning to Peter's roots and we look forward to working once again with Marvel Studios, Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin on this new beginning."

The studio tells ET that it will have more news about the new 'Spider-Man' in the coming weeks as it prepares for production of the film.

Batman begins type of a thing? Well I hated the Spiderman movies for their visual look, the CGI was just that bad.

Oh god, now I have to explain to my son why peter parker is a different man. he is still confused by batman and superman, and why wolverine is yellow in the cartoon but black in the movies. Why do they have to mess with shit, they are playing with little boys fantasies. Just make the film, who needs actors for spiderman movies anyway!! Just digi Toby's face on where required.

Hopefully Spidey won't be such a wanker in the re-boot. Dude was soft.

Does CGI ever look good? People keep telling me to see Avatar and all I can think of is elitism propaganda, (bad) CGI, and a full bladder with no intermission in sight.

I hate CGI with a passion--and yes, you're right. In the Spider-Man films, it very often looks like those old Superman serials from the '40s where a live-action Clark Kent would turn into a cartoon Superman. CGI is mostly awful.

But Avatar's animation is pretty brilliantly done and advances the art form significantly, imo. It's a landmark work that truly raises the bar. I would disagree with the "elitism propaganda" remark too. But yes, one thing is for sure: Go pee before it starts if you do go see it.

The first two Spider-Man movies are phenomenal. I doubt the reboot could ever be that good.

He's supposed to be doing one for Battle Angel Alita. He was working on that before Avatar mad
