Justice for Buddy I got this from Rescue today:
Friends and Family, I wish there was no such thing as hate and cruelty in this world but sadly there is. The reason I’m writing today is because of an act of cruelty that was committed against a stolen German Sheppard named Buddy in Grand Junction, Colorado by Steven Clay Romero. I won’t go into the gory details, you can read it for yourself if you wish but I do ask you to please sign the petition so that this cowardly monster, who has a long criminal history is not only given the maximum sentence but serves every bit of his sentence. The trial date is set, please let the judge know you too want Justice for Buddy! http://www.thepetitionsit...dys-killer Here's the story (I couldn't read it ) http://www.foxnews.com/st...24,00.html

I will skip reading what happened to him. I volunteered at enough Animal Shelters to have too many details of animal cruelty stuck in my head.
I signed the petition and posted the story and petition onfacebook for others to see. [Edited 1/9/10 10:42am]

And this happened right down the block from where i live
Cops catch man seen beating dog on surveillance video in Harlem Five officers assigned to a unit that monitors closed-circuit cameras at a Harlem housing project zeroed in on two suspects in the same night: a man accused of stabbing his 9-year-old cousin to death, and another seen viciously beating his girlfriend's lap dog in an elevator. The incidents occurred within an hour of each other Saturday at a complex known as the Grant Houses. The officers heard only a report of a knife assault, but had no description of a suspect when they noticed Alejandro Morales in an elevator with bare feet, police said. Using razor-sharp cameras, they tracked him downstairs into the cold, snowy night as a description of the suspect became available, and quickly radioed to officers who arrested him. About an hour later, the same officers monitoring the cameras noticed Chris Grant taking his girlfriend's dog Chuvi-Duvi for a walk, police said. Grant, 21, is seen in the video viciously kicking and abusing the tiny black-and-white Chihuahua and Pomeranian mix. At one point, Grant pats his knees as if to welcome the 12-pound dog up for a pet, then viciously kicks it away. It slams up against the corner of the elevator and cowers. Once the doors open, the two walk across the street to convenience shop, and return to the elevator where the abuse continues. The officers canvassed the complex looking for suspects, and Grant was arrested Monday when he returned to the apartment. The video was shown to the dog's owner and Chuvi-Duvi was taken an animal hospital for treatment. The dog is in good condition and was expected to be released Wednesday. Grant was arraigned Monday on charges of torturing and injuring an animal and resisting arrest. His attorney did not return a call seeking comment. Morales, 25, is being held without bail in the stabbing death of his 9-year-old cousin Anthony Maldonado. The boy was attacked while visiting family at the project. Morales' lawyer says he has a history of psychiatric illness and may have been affected by mixing medications with marijuana in the days before Anthony Maldonado's death. On Wednesday, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly gave the officers certificates of recognition for their work. One, Lt. Jason Savino, was also commended for tracking and locating a second murder suspect. The other four, Sgt. Christopher Dixon, Det. Michael Oner, and Police Officers Raul Gabriel and Naetron King were commended for helping to capture "an abusive individual who repeatedly and brutally beat a small defenseless dog." The "viper" unit is part of the NYPD's housing bureau. It is a temporary, non-enforcement assignment for officers who are on modified duty, either for medical or disciplinary reasons. Chief police spokesman Paul J. Browne would not comment on why the commended officers were modified.

I do not get how humans can hurt defenseless creatures. I grew up watching my father abuse our dogs and cats. It is something that haunts me to this day. There is no proper punishment for hurting animals but hopefully the guy that killed Buddy will see enough punishment that he never does anything like that ever again.

Yes, I signed also. The one thing that gets me livid is animal cruetly. I swear, if I were to actually run up on someone abusing an animal, I'd probably go ballistic and get my ass killed. To save the animal I would probably attack its abuser. Pray for me, ya'll.
