I think the problem when I read baseless statements like that from people is that this ultimately stems from an argument of values. The further down you descend from the behavior-belief-value scale towards primal values, the less likely one side is going to make sense to the other side. (They're not coming from the same place)

From those of us who think this is nothing but a whole mess of so-what, we find the hoopla ridiculous. From those in the 'Prince turned our kids gay' (remember those FCC complaints? falloff ) camp, it's a world in which government should take a heavy hand in legislating morality; because, if it offends you then surely it should not be made available to anybody else or made so only upon your own arbitrary rules.

In Europe, all manor of things are shown which are not here in America. And I would argue that it hasn't turned their kids gay or degenerate. If a parent doesn't want to see Adam Lambert kissing another man, then turn the television off. What were they expecting to see from a POP/ROCK event after 10 PM anyways? lol Yodeling and square dancing? lol Take some personal responsibility and stop wasting tax payer dollars legislating a values war you yourselves created.

Now we all know Prince is extremely gay in so, so, sooooo many ways, but did this turn our children gay? no. Prince should be allowed to continue being the big 'ol nelly queen we know he is, unfettered by our demands for him to curb afore mentioned gayness.

roodboi, great response by the way. lol

The American media is quite reactionary.

I remember when VH1 aired Prince's "Pussy" control which after the end of the performance dropped several hundred balloons, each with a pair of male underwear with "Pussy control" written on the fronts of them.

This could have affected Prince's career if he wasn't so irrelevant already back then and his career wasn't in a tailspin.

It's funny all the folks complaining about Lambert haven't complained about some of Prince's performances in public. I guess being openly gay still comes with certain risks in the media.

The internet wasn't as prevelent as it is now.

Hell, there were Congressional Hearings because of Prince's music.

The Parental Advisory Sticker that comes on CD's is because of Prince's music.

There were definitely complaints about Prince's music.

He rarely did TV performances, anyway.

I'm not talking about 'the FCC' folks.
I'm talking about orgers.

lol

I'm also not talking about warning stickers (I'm all for them), I'm talking about wanting to keep the stuff off the air because of one's own personal distaste.

I was around for all the things Prince was involved in. It surprises me nobody brings Prince up in these threads when they launch into their own values war rhetoric.

There's like 200 channels to chose from now. They can just switch the channel and watch nudity-free, gay-free television of folks getting riddled with bullets and bombs exploding--you know, good 'ol American values television. lol

We're not talking about his music, though. We're talking his performances. Going back as far as the Grammy performance in 85, Prince was sexual. The Pussy Control performance on the VH1 show. The performances on Arsenio. The assless pants performance on MTV. Hell, the performance of the medley on the AMAs.

I am sure if I did the research, I would not find any stories or tons of complaints about Prince's performances. it's a double standard and complete bullshit.

it's that moronic belief of america: it is fine to beat a man, kill him, tear him limb from limb, as long as you don't kiss him.

and the non-violent stuff is also ridiculous. a constant onslaught of heterosexuality is perfectly acceptable, but the moment you show any kind of homosexuality, it's shoving it down people's throats.

UGH. Onslaught of heterosexuality falloff
I quite like seeing tits on the screen redface

My problem with hetero-sexuality isn't really related to this debate though. I just hate seeing all these shows where there's this dorky main male character and then an absolutely gorgeous female lead who's 20 years younger than him, super-brilliant, extremely charming, and completely unaware of his dorkiness or her own hotness. lol
There's no realism in it whatsoever. It's written by delusional heterosexual males and endorsed by the wider public.

These are probably the same folks who thought they were being inclusive by adding that one "flamboyant" character to each show (sometimes gay, sometimes gay-but-NOT-gay) who was completely neutered but everyone could laugh at...you know, cause gay is funny.

Huh?
I am not fighting gay sexuality... I am fighting pornography in general, it shouldn't be on during primetime hours. Yes I monitor what my child watches. We have had to turn off the TV several times when we felt it was too much lewdness for her age. We run a very strict household, that is how my husband and myself were raised and that is how I want to raise my child. When it is time and she is ready we prefer to explain to her about the birds and the bees and we don't want an "Adam Lambert" or anyone else doing our job for us. Get it now? I am sure most conservative American families feel the same way as I do.

The more of those complaints I read, the more I was convinced that all the complainers can go fuck themselves. I am also convinced that are a lot of stupid parents on this earth, too.

the gay minstrel.

homophobes are completely comfortable with them, because they fit the stereotype, are generally nuetered, and only exist to help heterosexuals fall in love and make straight folks laugh.
