That's what I'm saying. What are folks basing these opinions on when they've never been to these places? Is it just stuff they've heard? If that's the case just from watching TV and the evening news, I would think all black folks are uneducated, on welfare, and criminals. Yeah, Im a bit depressed to read some of the comments, Its disturbing....they haven't been here ,so they have no right whatsoever to judge. MICHAEL JACKSON

Okay you were posting to fast and didn't realize what you were saying when you typed "nearly all of Africa" and "any part of Latin America". You realise Africa and South America are continents , with 47 and 13 countries respectively, and therefore it's rather ignorant to compare the individual country with what's happening on the entire continent. And if we were to address problems in the countries you mentioned as safe to visit, then is that because there is a strong european influence? Seriously what's up?[/quote]
Well first of all to me "Latin America" is an acceptable term to describe all of Central and South America, It means America where Spanish (Or in the case of Brazil, Portugese are the main languages) is the main language (Excepting of course the Carribean and Guyana (English speaking, but still screwed up), French Guiana (Actually part of France under their antique colonial regime) and Suriname (Dutch speaking but still poor and unstable). Lets see nearly every country south of Mexico has 1. Political instability 2. Drug Problems 3. A huge gap between rich (Mostly white people of Spanish ancestry) and poor mostly mestizo, indigenous or negro) 4. Bad infrastructure 5. Overall poverty 6. Unsafe travelling conditions and banditos The only one that is fairly stable is Costa Rica, but theres little reason to visit there really from New Zealand. Africa is the same as nearly every country has 1. Either intolerant Muslim or Fundamentalist Christian groups (In the case of Nigeria - both>>>) 2. Massive homophobia problems eg, Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania 3. Hordes of poor poor poor people that the government dosen't give a fuck about as they are not the same tribe as them. 4. Tribal problems (Most african countries have power struggles due to them being colonial constructs, formulated along ancient racist colonial lines, by people who did not realise the diversity of African peoples) 5. Political instability, regime changes, military coups etc 6. Unsafe for white and rich tourists 7. Poor connections from New Zealand and Australia 8. I don't like hot sticky climates 9. Ridiculously bad infrastructure 10. Most places are dirty, smelly and run down 11. Many people do not know basic hygiene and are physically ill. That is why I blanket described these places, I do actually read the Britannica book of the year, look at wikipedia, watch the news and subscribe to National Geographic (So its definitely not the 'small islands, small minds' syndrome. So the main reason I refuse to visit these counties is that I fear for my personal safety in them. Holidays are for enjoyment and pleasure, not life and death struggles. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Jesus, like all Spaniards are matadors
I could say that I would never visit the USA because it kills humans legally, which is even worse than killing bulls, if you ask me. But I won´t say it cause it would be embarrasingly stupid to equate the american people and their country with some of its laws. Not that killing bulls is a law here. I find it abhorrent myself but it´s just a minuscule part of Spain´s culture, you know.

So the main reason I refuse to visit these counties is that I fear for my personal safety in them. Holidays are for enjoyment and pleasure, not life and death struggles. Are you kidding me? First off every country south of mexico is neither poor, nor rife with political instabiliy, drug problems or bad infrastructure. Are you aware that the economies of panama, chile and argentina are improving? Are you aware that Brazil is now one of the leading debt purchaser of other nations? You don't get that way by being broke. ARe you aware that the biggest latin countries engaging in the drug trade are mexico, columbia and nicaragua? So any remaining problems you see in Latin America, that's the Spaniards fault right? I mean you were quick to point out the origins of nation building with respect to Latin America. As for the AFrican continent, again you're joking right? Not every country in Africa has tribal wars. You are limiting an entire continent to basically 3 nations: Sudan, Nigeria and Eastern Congo. Also, lets not be so high and might as to discuss poverty as if it had some universal definition. If one can take care of their family then they are not poor correct? Just because one doesn't drive a moderate to fancy car to high tail to their local Starbucks does not mean they are poor. Your poorest African nations are Ethiopia, Congo, Liberia, Niger and Rwanda and that's by their gross national product. That's 5 out of 47! And you want to talk about hygenie and illness? Did you forget that Europe was once the dirtiest place on the planet? Europeans didn't practice hygeine and that's why they had massive plagues and deaths. Wasn't it Queen Lizzie the first who bragged that she had two baths in her entire lifetime? the only honest thing you have said is that you don't like hot climates and that you feel latin america and AFrica are not friendly to white tourists. Basically you are speaking with a eurocentrist mindset and are ill informed. [Edited 1/12/10 16:19pm]
