So today is my friend Gale's 50th birthday. (not her real name). My black gal friend is due to be married the first time in her life on the 18th of this month. Her fiance's birthday is also this month.

The thing about Gale is that .....well, except a few kisses w/ guys in college at ORU (and more recently with her fiance), she's a full on virgin. Honestly! No oral, no anal, no vaginal, no feeling up, no hand jobs, NOTHING. She's a true virgin at 50 years old. This marriage (his second, her first.....he's a widower) will truly be enlightening for her. I'm very happy for her.

I met her at church about 18 years ago. She loves the Lord, and believes that sex is saved for marriage. She's never been afraid of dating or men, but she just never had the desire to deal with the drama one can get with dating and/or hooking up (she's def not one to sleep around), and trying to file through hundreds of guys to try and find the right one. She's just not wired that way, at all. She's the polar opposite of 99% of people I know (the other 1% being children LOL) She jokes/is-serious when she used to say "God is just going to have whatever man is meant for me just show up at my door with a neon sign over his head saying "This is the one!". It pretty much happened that way. She got into helping this guy w/ his website. He puts up audio files of sermons from a lot of different pastors, as well as links to Christian articles, etc. She's helped him w/ the site for years, and became good friends with him and his then wife.

I always joked w/ her that she'd marry a white guy. Not sure why, but even in the early days of getting to know her, and talking about marriage, I had the feeling she'd marry a white guy. Sure enough, this guy she's with is white. He's about 10 years older than her, and a Frenchman. He has a heavy accent, but is fluent in English and French. They've been to Paris together (with a missionary/church group, as tag along tourists). They met at church, and both love the Lord, and will grow together wonderfully as Christians and spouses.

Gale is a great friend, and she's been through some of the worst parts of my life, and never wavered in her friendship w/ me. I won't be able to get home for the wedding (Tulsa).

I just wondered if anyone else has a friend that is still a virgin, and well into their adult years.

Confession time: I was a virgin until I was 23, then I just went buck wild and done some things I'm not proud of but have no regrets.

Slept with many, only loved one. The rest were meaningless one-nighters. Sex is more physical than emotional for me.

I agree, but I know a few women who would beg to differ, though. They claim that sex is also strictly a physical thing. I tend to doubt that, though, because from my experience it is usually the woman who wants more out of it than I do. Once it's done, it is DONE.

As far as I know, I don't know any adults that are virgins.

I waited until I was 19 to have sex.

And sex is just physical to me...I'm sure people are tired of reading me say that on here.

Her choice was a CHOICE, in that she wasn't going to file through dozens of men trying to find the right one. She approached it as being perused instead of doing the pursuing. She worked, hung out with friends, stayed strong in her faith with God, and felt confident that when the time was right, the man she was to marry would be there. Oddly, she probably had no idea this guy would end up being her fiance, since he was married when she met him and his wife years ago. The wife died in 2008. But their friendship early on was also a good way of creating JUST a friendship, and getting to know someone well, WITHOUT the assumption of dating or marriage or sex in it. Friends first seems to have worked for her.
