Thinking of moving to Chicago? My mind is made up and I have to get out of Texas soon.
Chicago is calling me for some strange reason. Is there anyone out there who can give me some info on the workings of the city and such.

Call 1-800-PIMPMEOUT for more info. That should get you started in a new city, with a new job and new friends.

If you're from Texas, be prepared for the same kind of unpredictable weather, but only 10-20 degrees colder. Winter lasts roughly half the year, but spring, early summer, and fall are quite beautiful. Chicago is a great city with lots of nightlife, great food and a very diverse (albeit mostly segregated) population. If you love city life, Chi is the place for you.
I moved from Chicago to Texas a few years back and the only thing I don't really miss is the cold weather. Good luck and God bless in your move. ______________________________________

I moved to Chicago from NYC two years ago - I've definitely gone on a love/hate journey during my 48 months in this city.
It's true that there's a lot of diversity, but it's also true that there's a lot of segregation. No matter who you are, there's a place for you here - but you can only be that part of yourself 100% within that place. It's very odd, very unique, and just part of what makes Chicago what it is, I suppose. If you're looking for a place to live on the cheap while still enjoying a large metropolitan culture, this is a great place. I make diddley squat in salary, yet I can still comfortably afford to live on my own, feed myself, have cable TV and even go out and have fun every now and then. Not so easily done in New York. Visit the city a few times. Figure out what the different neighborhoods have to offer. I'm currently in a state of mild love with the city. It can work for you if you have patience and a talent for adapting.

Hell yes it is cold here right now...and it suxs ass big time. I can not wait for my lovely chicago summer to come back. However if you want to move here I am sure the city would love to have you. It is never boring I can tell you that
The city itself yes I agree with the others can be segregated...I myself live on the north side close to Lincoln Park, and 4 blocks from the lake. I also work in the northern suburbs. My rent is rather affordable. It does however take time adjusting to life in chicago and quite honestly can be rough at times, but I myself have had no major problems.

Take a trip to Chicago first -- a couple of them. I was there this last summer and I never knew what humidity was until I met Chicago. I was wet and sticky within a couple minutes of walking outside at 7 in the morning. It felt like I was in a sauna or that the city was enclosed within a dome the whole time. And I hear the winters are killer. Very extreme weather most of the year -- it's either hot or cold, not much inbetween. But lots to do there, if that's what you're looking for. Beautiful buildings, lots of history. Many diverse peoples, classes, and cultures.
