Male prostitutes now legal in Nevada

From the NY Daily News:

Shady Lady Ranch in Nevada makes history by getting approval to hire male prostitutes

Hey, guys, have you hit hard times? Is it hard to find a job? Has it been been hard to start a new career? Well, it may be hard to believe, but the Nevada sex industry may have a position — or two — for you.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the owner of the Shady Lady Ranch is looking for “a few good men” who are willing to become Nevada’s first legal male sex workers.

“This is a service whose time has come,” owner Bobbi Davis said in a letter to Nye County officials who had to approve of the business expansion.

A county liquor board’s vote Tuesday affirming that Davis could offer “shady men” to her clientele followed months of rancorous debate among the state’s legal brothel community, the Times reported.

George Flint, a longtime lobbyist for the Nevada Brothel Association, has said that allowing male prostitutes could be the industry’s Pearl Harbor. He has hinted that brothels possibly offering gay sex - a choice each prostitute, as an independent contractor, would be free to make - might sour some legislators on the entire brothel system.

“This is the first time in the history of the world . . . that men have been licensed to sell sex,” Flint said at Tuesday board meeting, his voice rising. “It’s never been done!”

According to the Times, Davis and her husband, Jim, merely hope to boost business. Their small outpost near Death Valley, about 150 miles northwest of Las Vegas, offers as many as five women, relies heavily on travelers and has gotten some requests for gigolos.

Davis figures that, even if it’s a flop, adding men to her roster is worth trying. She has been inundated with more than 100 applications, she told the Times, though she has held off on hiring until she’d cleared the last all bureaucratic hurdle on Tuesday.

At a contentious meeting of the Nye County Licensing and Liquor Board, Dennis Hof, owner of the Moonlite BunnyRanch, raised concerns about monitoring the spread of infectious diseases.

But Commissioner Lorinda Wichman would have none of it. “You guys can’t scare me,” the Times quoted her as saying before voting in Davis’ favor. “I’m going to try this.”

Why don't I see this being all that lucrative? lol

Sure there's a novelty market for it I suppose, but no woman or gay man has to pay for sex.

I saw recently in a documentary about Heidi Fleiss, that she was trying to open up a male brothel, but met stiff resistance. I wonder if she'll follow through with her plans once she gets out of celebrity rehab..

True! But at the same time, the ranch owner claims in the article to have gotten requests for men in the past. Who is making these requests?

I could maybe see old rich women who have no interest in wasting time with trying to meet someone but would just assume pay someone.

Some gay men do, because it's a turn on, or they truly feel like they can't get it on their own.

Yeah, the novelty of it covers the turn-on portion and I suppose there are the senators and other closeted types who are paying for discretion. They can't exactly go hook up at bars, now, can they?

Yep, that too. And some gay guys in their 40's and 50's are still chasing 20 something (pre-25), and know that they'll NEVER get those guys (99% of the time, unless the young kid wants a "daddy" figure, which is creepy on a whole other level). It sickens me that old fat creepy (and often married-in-a-sexless marriage) men chase after kids young enough to be their son or grandson.

I live with one who is 47. He befriends all the bag boys at the grocery store. There's one sitting in my house right now that he's fraternizing with. And the kid is straight as an arrow. barf
