I stopped watching Late Night talk shows after Carson retired and Letterman moved to CBS. Though of late I like the guy who replaced Conan on his old late late night show. I never really liked either Leno or Conan, well maybe that's to strong of a word. I'm indifferent.

Conan was a terrible idea for the Tonight Show, case closed, he is not appealing to the base audience at all, that was the worry and why DAVE was never offered the slot back in 1992 when Johnny left, Johnny who was DAVE's good friend even said DAVE was wrong for the spot, Conan was perfect where he was, like a cult fave, they should just go back to the old way and lose that HORRID Jimmy Fallon who was never funny in anything and his interviewing is possibly worse than the WORST ever Jimmy Kimmel. So NBC, take the advice, the viewers have spoken they dont like the new leno at 10, they hate conan on that show, and no one cares about Jimmy Fallon except maybe his family.

It appears the experiment is over Leno coming back to the Tonight Show.

Conan's my favorite of all these guys, but I agree with this entirely.

...Although, I'd still be pissed if I were Conan. And they'd have to put some major money in my pocket to keep me from having the wandering eye.

If you do, you might have to wait, if the move story is true. It's starting to hit the press a bit. Jestyr says it is true.

From CNN:
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Entertainer Jay Leno did the ol' soft shoe as speculation swirled that NBC might cancel his show or move it back to the 11:35 p.m. ET time slot.

"The Jay Leno Show," now airing at 10 p.m., has had lackluster ratings since its debut in September, hurting affiliates as the lead-in to the evening news. If NBC makes the move, it would create a domino effect for the network's other late-night programming -- "The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien" and "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon."

The New York Times reported that NBC wants to move Leno's show to the later start time and shrink it to 30 minutes from its current hour-long configuration, knocking O'Brien to 12:05 a.m.

"We have the best comedy team in the business," NBC spokeswomen Rebecca Marks said Thursday evening in response to the speculation. "We remain committed to keeping Conan O'Brien on NBC. He is a valued part of our late-night lineup, as he has been for more than 16 years and is one of the most respected entertainers on television."

Leno tackled the issue with his typical humor.

"As you may have heard, there's a rumor floating around we were canceled. I heard it coming in this morning on the radio," Leno said during his monologue. "So far, nobody said anything to me, but ... you know, if we did get canceled, it would give us some time to maybe do some traveling. In fact, I understand FOX is beautiful this time of year.

"Actually, I don't think there's any truth to the rumors," Leno continued. "See, it's always been my experience NBC only cancels you when you're in first place, so we're fine."

In another quip, Leno asked: "What does NBC stand for? Never believe your contract."

Man. I thought we were going to be rid of Leno once and for all until they decided to give him the pre-local news slot. Now this booolshit half hour lead-in to Conan? I don't want even 10 minutes of that mediocre crap Jay Leno calls comedy.

I don't usually advocate violence, but Leno could be attacked and eaten by rabid mimes and I would sleep well.

whats going to happen 2 conan ???

I heard it's getting pushed back half an hour. I'm glad the Jay Leno show is out of prime time. With Jay in Prime Time that means 4 less slots for tv shows, thats why South Land had to go to cable (TNT I think????). I think ratings drop because at that time of night people would rather watch a regular tv drama/comedy. Heck Eastwick (Which got cancelled fit) beat Leno in the ratings a few times during it's to short run. Just to early for late night talk.

Agreed. Fox only has two hours of prime time programming, and no after hours per se until the weekend, and they have Wanda Sucks for that. I think he should get on cable somewhere, like Bill Mahar did. Do something on Showtime that's fun and exciting.

It just seems that Leno and Conan are two very different people, and have very different audiences. It was the younger self-described geeks that stayed up late anyway, and enjoyed Conan (the same way they did Letterman back in the day). It's the folks staying up just past the news that want to see Leno, then it's shut eye time. To move a quirky guy like Conan into that middle aged time spot, although it's a good spot to lead in from the news, just doesn't work. Even Letterman's audience is growing older, and the ever-tragically-looked-over-genius known as Craig Ferguson gets his quirky group in at 12:35 a.m. with too few ratings. Craig is truly the king of the four late night people (because who's counting Carson Daly's dog and pony show as a serious show anyway?).

TMZ is reporting that NBC has basically told Conan to take the 12 to 1 shift or he can let the door hit him on the way out.

Well the proof is in the ratings plain and simple, its not a question of who people think is funnier, quite frankly i think Dave has them both beat, and so does Craig Ferguson in terms of humour. But face the facts people dont want Conan at 11:30 or in that show, i think after Leno the Tonight Show should be retired, they should have just gone on to something different rather than keep that name, that name is always gonna be "Johnnys" and no one will ever top that man, Leno had that same kind of wide appeal and thats why JOHNNY suggested him and not Dave though Dave was his friend, Johnny wanted someone that could carry on his tradition.

I dont dislike Conan, but he is not a good fit for this slot or show, and Dave was stomping him as he should have, because he is 100times better at it.

Yeah, but they spun it as they've given him the option of leaving IF he wants to leave. Which means if he does, NBC will then spin it that he was pissy about the move, etc, and threw a fit and left. Frankly, I'd throw a fit too. It's a bunch of "I know, but....." going on. If he stays, he looks like a pussy, taking a step back to let Leno back in. Leno just needs to exit stage Fuck Off, and let NBC deal with things without their pointy chin savior.

I agree too because even though I don't think Conan is good fit for the Tonight Show, it's still fucked up how they pushing it back to let their previous host have his show on at your time slot.

I doubt Conan would quit NBC and the Tonight show to have a show on FOX. FOX has not had any success in Late night in the past (Joan Rivers/Chevy Chase). In the long run the best thing for Conan is to stick it out.

^ABC has been wanting a late night talk show for several years now. If I recall there was rumors that they were trying to get Letterman to switch a couple years ago. I'd say they are talking to Conan on the downlow at the moment. Cause since Ted left Nightline that show sucks balls.

I don't believe there was a couch session during those three performances. There was always debate as to who Prince pointed at during "Feel Better, Feel Good". I say Billy Mays, but others said he was pointing to Jay. Who knows, it's no biggie to me either way. He did write a note to Jay on the last show in May, but that was it.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/S...index.html

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- NBC host Jay Leno is going back to late nights after a low-rated experiment in prime time, the network announced Sunday.

Leno's prime-time talk show, which debuted in September, "didn't meet affiliates' needs," said Jeff Gaspin, chairman of NBC Universal Television Entertainment.

The program will go off the air February 12, when the 2010 Winter Olympics begin.

The network is now negotiating with Leno and its current late-night hosts, Conan O'Brien and Jimmy Fallon, to decide who ends up with which time slot, Gaspin said.

The goal is to keep all three hosts, but nothing was a done deal as of Sunday, he said.

O'Brien took over NBC's flagship "Tonight Show" when Leno moved to the 10 p.m. slot in September. Fallon took over O'Brien's former show, "Late Night." Gaspin said the new plan is for Leno to take over a shortened "Tonight Show," with O'Brien moving back to "Late Night" at midnight and Fallon hosting a new show at 1 a.m.

Reports of the shakeup first emerged last week. Leno dismissed them on his show on Thursday night, telling his audience, "It's always been my experience NBC only cancels you when you're in first place."

Leno's move to prime time was a risk for NBC, because it put a talk show up against scripted prime-time shows and ran it five days a week. Network spokeswoman Rebecca Marks said last week that Leno performed "exactly as we anticipated on the network," but the show created some issues for NBC's affiliates -- issues she declined to explain.

lol Apparently Jay can be funny sometimes!
Seriously, though, WTF? Wasn't he ahead of Letterman for his whole run?
Why would NBC tinker like this?

I feel like they're using Jay to cover for Conan's poor ratings. If Conan was killing they'd never give Jay back his old slot. They must want Conan to be the guy and they're using Jay to phase him in. They figure they'll get some of Jay's audience for the 11:30 slot, and those folks will stick around for Conan.

Whatever, just put on good shows! All the marketing & tinkering is what killed stuff like Arrested Development.

NBC fucked Letterman over, so I guess it's Conan's turn. I think Conan lost a little of his edginess when he took the Tonight Show slot, so maybe that mojo will return if he gets pushed back. None of this shit would have happened if Leno would have been gracious and stepped down like he was supposed to when he promised the spot to Conan in the first place. They basically had to drag his unfunny ass out kicking and screaming and offer him the prime-time spot.

It's almost like whoever hosts Late Night gets fucked over eventually. Watch out Jimmy Fallon. It's the step-child of the network. They ACT like everyone is a family, but eventually, when no one is looking, the red-headed stepchild gets a smack up side the head. Voila.....Conan.

I hate that NBC is acting like Leno is some godsend for the network. Yes he was #1 most of the time he was on, but now it's all turning into a big joke. Conan should just ship and tell them to piss off. I don't think people want talk shows at 10 p.m. It's like watching American Bandstand at that hour. It just doesn't fit. It's not a drama, it's not darker, or more adult. It's a damned talked show! There are times that the public like to see that sort of thing, and it's daytime or after the news. Prime time is for prime time shows....the best of the best that the network has to offer. Leno wasn't it. It's like putting Sheila E as a headliner for OzzFest. NOT GON' WORK! People want Anthrax, not "A Love Bizarre".
