my 4 best friends in high school were girls. It was a negative because I had a big crush on one of them when we became friends but it declined as I got to know her (hungry-eating-half-of-my-lunch-every-damn-day muthafucka!) The plus was I knew who all the freaks were in school. I knew -what the senior class president, her homegirl, and 2 of the star football players did after junior prom -who was giving head to her study partners -the truth to the rumors about my dance teacher and some students.... -who was the undercover hoes (I should've taken advantage of this information ) I'd be walking around campus with the "Oooh, I knew what you did" look [Edited 1/7/10 15:42pm] "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Either I outgrew them (meaning they kept acting young and crazy and I didn't), or the dynamics of the relationship didn't work for me (I was being asked to give more than I was able, and guilt tripped when I didn't live up), or our lives just caused us to grow apart. Then there's the ones that ended because we fucked, but that's another thread. I've always tended to enjoy the company of guys, mostly because they dont TALK SO FUCKING MUCH. I really can't stand chatter for the sake of chatter, and many women seem to have a need to talk even when there's nothing to say. Somebody make another thread!!!!! puts on reading glasses "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I've never had a confide-everything-in-best-friend of either sex really, I keep most things to myself.
There is a woman I see most days who probably thinks I am her best friend she tells me everything and cries in front of me and I find it draining!!! I have close long term friends, but sometimes they might make an observation of me like "you don't like the heat, do you?" as if they know that about me, and I get annoyed!!

My closest friends have been a pretty even split, I guess. I tend to prefer the company of men. And women often don't like me. But I do think women are a bit better at being there when times get rough. Men tend to be like, "you deal with your shit and call me when you're fun again." Which is actually fine with me, but I haven't been much fun lately, so my friends are skewing female. "What's 'non-sequitur' mean? Do I look it up in a Fag-to-English dictionary?"

my best friend is male. we have not compromised our relationship with sex. he tells me the nasty scoop on men and i tell him the nasty scoop on women. we have an agreement that if one day when we are old, gray, and arthritic and we find ourselves still single...we will get married.

This is very true in my experience. or, as a man I have been told that we're only trying to solve problems, women console each other. My Legacy

It's an even split... my close friends male and female I've known since childhood. Though, I tend to to " specific things" with my men friends. I see them at different times of the year at specific events. I have friends we really only see each other till baseball season stares, we go to Cubs games together. But when I need them or they know something has gone down, they are there.

If men can't do something to help, they seem to not want to talk about hard stuff. I don't think that's a wrong way to be, but if most of your friends are male and you're going through shit, it's easy to feel real alone real fast! "What's 'non-sequitur' mean? my best friends have been female 'cept one male. most straight men i've come into contact with have just had an air(sp?) about them i can't stand being around.
even gay men after awhile I end up bringing out the claws and can't keep long friend relationships with. (I've coincidently had some sexual relationshit with all of them ) 12/05/2011
