I just say-in'. Sista girl needs to leave ol'boy alone, he hasn't been straight up about why he was found guilty of murder.

Like I said, I didn't ask about the specific charge and she may have just said it was murder cuz he killed somebody even tho that may not be the actual legal charge. So, I'm not saying dude lied or wasn't up front cuz, regardless he admitted to serving time for killing somebody and I wasn't there so I may not be getting the complete explanation.

In your opinion, does the 6 years sound reasonable for manslaughter?

I gotcha.

Yes, it does. Of course states sentencing guidelines can and do vary but in the State Of Illinois being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter is 2 - 5 years.

I guess it's tough to say without being in the situation. I can see it going either way. I don't see myself having much in common with someone who went through that, but then again, if it's that far in their past and it was indeed self defense and such then it shouldn't really matter.

Agreed. Dude is VERY articulate and except for the 3/4 sleeve of tats (which are usually covered up) is pretty clean cut, beautiful teeth too. You would never think criminal, much less killer. Scary to think the secrets people are walking around with. shake

At this point if it was something they did at 19 and they've been on the straight & narrow since then it would be no problem.

So under what circumstances would you get only 6 years for killing someone? I'm really trynna understand how that's possible. hmmm
[Edited 1/6/10 16:49pm]

Could be for unvoluntary manslaughter. If it was ruled self defense then he should have gone free. If it is unvolunatry manslaughter he didn't have good enough reason to defend himself by killing him, but may not have intended to kill. Perhabs a fight gone bad, in which he snapped and went ballistic.

Funnily enough, I did exactly that. No problems at all. He was a lovely guy who got mixed up in some shit. He did his time, came out and got on with his life. That was years ago, and I don't know where he is now, but he was a lovely guy.

I didn't have this simplistic vision of things.

Apparently justice isn't perfect in the U.S., if you don't get the money for a lawyer, or if your unable to collect pieces of evidence you can get death penalty whereas another would get 10 years for the same crime (apart from the age factor of course)
SCNDLS seems mature enough to analyze the situation and to notice if the person is faking or not.
