NJ lawmakers ask MTV to cancel 'Jersey Shore'

TRENTON, N.J. – MTV is getting more pressure to cancel its "Jersey Shore" reality show.

The latest criticism comes from the New Jersey Italian American Legislative Caucus, which says the show promotes derogatory ethnic stereotypes and is "wildly offensive."

In a letter sent Tuesday to the president of Viacom, MTV's parent company, caucus chairman Joseph Vitale asks that the show be immediately taken off the air.

The state lawmakers also have asked advertisers to boycott the show, which focuses on eight tanned 20-somethings and their escapades in Seaside Heights, a popular New Jersey beach town.

On Wednesday, a Viacom spokesman referred a request for comment to an MTV spokesperson, who did not immediately respond. MTV has said its intention is not to stereotype or offend.

I'm just kinda tired of hearing about...erm...what's her name..snickerdoodle?confuse While I guess some people are totally into the guido and guidette thing, I'm kinda not. razz It's kind of a tacky look with all the eyeliner and stuff. But anyway, I saw a clip of that bar fight episode. No matter how I feel about the show, that was incredibly messed up for a teacher of combat to stoop so low as to put hands on a woman. I was watching Wendy Williams lil' show and the dudes who are in the house with the girls were all "oh we didn't get there in time and it just happened..." eek Which..Eh...I dunno...kinda didn't sit right with me for some reason.

I've watched bits and pieces of the show. I really don't get the appeal. It seems to be offending a lot of locals, organizations, and sponsors.

so they have a market for this ?

The cast all look a like..

all in all, mtv's the city has some flare to its character build up and some substance.

This Guido show is a ball of mess.

thanks but no thanks.

YES! eek I kept thinking about the Gotti boys too. That show was a hilarious trainwreck. But at least the Gotti kids aren't tattooing the names of cars on their bodies. lol I forgot which one of the Shore dudes did that. He's got "Cadillac" marked on his side...

So... should Guid-ism be considered freedom of expression?

BLEAH to the whole concept, I can't even imagine the mentality behind this "lifestyle"... "so shallow they look up to tie their shoes" doesn't really even begin to cover it!

How on earth can this be something TO TAKE PRIDE IN??? confuse

How bizarre...
