Hmm, not necessarily. The real cause of a nail fungus is trapped water (or other agents like bleach, dirt, old food) underneath acrylic, so if the acrylic is constantly lifting and you are constantly dealing with water (washing clothes and dishes) then your chances are greater for a fungus to form. I do agree though, that its best to pick very carefully where you go to get your nail service performed at, recommendations are best, but it also depends on how well you take care of your nails in between services also. highfive

FWIW, I have never had an acrylic "lift." A silk wrap, yes (back in the day). But never an acrylic.

Again, proper maintenance is essential. In addition to filling, my nail tech glues me every two weeks. And he'll remove a nail at the first sign it's unstable and do a new one.

I'd love to go natural, but it's just not feasible for me. I have shit for nails - runs in my family. My only hope for having nice looking hands is a bi-weekly appointment at the nail salon. shrug

Gawd, I just don't miss the nail stuff lol I used to have the gunk on my nails years ago. I got too broke, had to stop going & my natural nails were so thin/brittle/painful under all that stuff I vowed to never do it again.

Just an observation, not a judgment. I'm cheap! lol
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

nod u can get some nasty things from a nail salon. If you don't see products they clean the files with or if you are a regular they should have files JUST FOR YOU. Trust me the amount of acrylic they are using and how it is purchased they are making a killing off from you.

If you have problems with lifting with acrylics make sure if you are using hand lotion before or for everday use that it doesn't have mineral oil in it. It's not good for them

It's just people talking about different kinds of nail treatments, and what we prefer to be attractive.

I wanted to hear from men what they think of painted nails, what kind of a statement men believe women are making when they do it, because it IS a statement, whether it is a come-on, a doing it because everyone else is doing it kind of thing, is it cheap? is it sophisticated?

I think clean, well-kept nails are attractive, and I like French manicures best. Painted nails are cool if they're not overly ornate.

I think some people are just inclined toward HIGH ornamentation. I'd guess most women do this sort of thing more for themselves (and for notice by other women) than for men.

I think nicely painted nails can be fine, even elegant, though not altogether necessary... especially in less-than-formal settings. And in ANY setting, when they're 3-inch-long talons, multicolored, edged in gold, pierced with hoops, etched with little pictures of cherry blossoms or Hello Kitty, etc., they are a total freak show to me. More than insecurity, though, I just think it's a hint at bad taste... which is unsexy to me. redface

i don't know how to elaborate on tackiness. it's subjective. you either feel that way or you don't.

as for b, i guess i'm dreadfully old-fashioned, but women don't really need all the extra stuff (makeup, tattoos, painted nails, etc). in my experience it all spells 'insecurity' and that's a drag for any potential partner.

I think it's become a hobby by the time it reaches that stage nod it ceases to be anything other than something fun to do that gives that woman enjoyment and probably also not really caring any more what others thing, except those similarly engaged in that whole scene (I'd almost call it a subculture - possibly comparable to scrap-booking and painting those little warcraft figurines)

BUT on the other hand, being self-adornment, it IS inviting a reaction (hopefully admiration!! lol ) otherwise someone's scorn is just a reason to say FUCK YOU!

as i said 30 or so posts ago, i think women mainly do it to impress other women, whether subconsciously or not. you can't really think that straight men will say 'ooh-er, she's a bit of alright. look at those nails!'

but that's an extreme, I enjoy seeing a woman's freaky nails now and then, so I got something to talk about at the BBQ to my mother in law. tease

so, neatly kept, manicured nails are sexy
subtle, non-attention seeking nails (possibly still a fairly high degree of maintenance, be don't look it - ie. $ and time to look "natural" )
= acceptably pretty much across the board as "attractive"

In my opinion, they do it to please themselves, it gives them pleasure

it's probably a big surprise to hear men think they are insecure!!!

I don't think you are alone in this thinking either,
women also find men with nice nails attractive also
but BEYOND that, self-obsessive

Women get them does to impress other women yes nod and they don't mind telling you what others think of them. With the price that is paid to have them done i guess they have the bragging rights to say what they wish.

My guy told me point blank that he can't stand when a woman's nails aren't done. He said he notices right away whether or not they've been taken care of. He doesn't see it as "high maintenance" or "insecure"; he sees it as carign about your appearance right down to your nails.
I also got a whole thing about feet... lol
Then he made it clear he wasn't talking about me, because he knows I already take care of it. wink

I think that like anything else, some people like them and some don't.
But to say that we are automatically vain or insecure is unfair.

What the fuck is so wrong with being high maintenance? lol

Or do men think someone that is high maintenance when it comes to their looks is somehow automatically high maintenance when it comes to relationships?

I'm definitely high maintenance but sure as hell am not when it comes to relationships with others.

No matter if you are a regular client or not, they should always use new and clean files. I don't trust the drilling files though, they can really do some major damage to your nail bed. I prefer the regular manual files to be used on my nails.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
