What's your hometown like for a night out? This is inspired by my venture into town last night for a few beers. I dunno what was in the air, but every 1st, 2nd and 3rd rate bam was out on tiles intent on creating and inflicting as much mayhem and violence as possible. Most alarmingly, a lot of the conflict was spurred on by female partners; "Kick fuck oot um Davie!", "Boot his baws, Tam" etc etc.
The catalyst for the carnage varied from inappropriate glances towards fast food "you looking it ma kebab ya cunt?", inappropriate glances towards females "you looking at ma bird ya cunt?" or unclassified inappropriate glances "whit you looking it ya cunt?" In saying that, I'd still say Glasgow's a great night out. You just need to know where to go to avoid high levels of nuggetry. What about other orgers hometowns? Where's the good bad, and the ugly? “If I can shoot rabbits/then I can shoot fascists”

Hmmm...
Tampa is a city of roughly 2 million people (I think it's closer to 3 million now) when you count the suburbs and satelite towns. Its' nightlife is amazing for such a small 'big' city. It has it's own spanish version of the French Quarter called Ybor city, and you can go clubbing ever single night of the week. It has at least 15 gay clubs that scattered throughout the city (if not many more), and there's something for everyone from any background. Bangkok is that times 6.

Asheville is a fun little city ~ nice clubs ~ live local bands ... great local owned and operated places to eat ~ funky shops and the such and low crime
Detroit was/is fun ... ATLANTA is okay as long as you have a good amount of $$ to burn

Well, it's a very small town and the only place I enjoy going to is this local bar because of good live music that can be heard there every now and then and the overall atmosphere
Other than that, I wouldn't really recommend anything There are a few places but I don't really like them. I usually go there just to please my friends.

In my hometown of 5,000 people, there is not one location I could refer to as a "club" with a straight face. There are only a few bars, and most of them have that depressing "pub with a pool table" feel to them. And I remember all of them dominantly playing country music.
Shit, no wonder I moved!

My town isn't great for clubs. I'm getting old so that doesn't really matter to me.
A night out for me would be going to a few pubs or a meal somewhere - it's pretty good for that. [Edited 1/24/10 14:18pm]

Madison is pretty fantastic, actually. Excellent theatre scene...a fair number of live music venues...decent restaurants...and a bar on every corner. In short, something for everyone! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The town I actually live in tends to suck, but there's a fun gay club and a couple okay bars to see local bands in. But I'm about an hour from L.A., so it's not too bad.

I was thinking the same of Minneapolis. Something for everyone and lots of choices no matter what your thing is. |

Seoul is excellent. There's always something to do by and large. There's Joy In Expatriation.

Boston is great at night.... before 2am. After that, the coach turns into a pumkin.
Unless it's summer and you're in the south end.

My sweetie's up there a lot on business (he'll be there this week, in fact) and I try to make it up there with him at least two or three times a year. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. Baltimore is okay for a night out. Downtown is nice, I suppose.
If there is nothing happening here, there is always DC just a few minutes away. If you will, so will I

I'm seriously considering making Seoul my next home. I hear nothing but great things about it. Many of the Uni students here are simply enamored by Korea.

My hometown had 800 people it in. There is one bar, which could stay open until 2am; but usually closes around 1am or earlier if the bartender decides they want to go home. It has a jukebox stocked with country music, a pool table, and lots of taxidermied animal heads mounted on the wall. It also has high chairs for babies.
In high school, clearly I could not go there because everyone in my hometown knows everyone else and they would know I was not 21. So instead my friends and I would drive around until we found someone over 21 to buy beer for us; then we would drive to a neighboring town where there was a huge dance. The driver not drinking. We had 40 minutes to drink all the beer before we got to this other town. Sometimes we could drive to a larger city (pop. 75,000), about 45 minutes in the other direction and go to movies or bowling. It sucked. Now I live in New York. I can do whatever I can think of whenever I want. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
