Jaden Smith ruined The Day The Earth Stood Still for me. terrible little actor. The original is still a classic,I dont understand this remake at all. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Oh gawd, WHY?! Hollywood is the most unproductive and unoriginal machine out there. It's a grab bag of old TV shows and movies that they're "remaking". WHY? How is the original Karate Kid from 25 years ago NOT good enough to still enjoy today? Because the kid isn't ethnic, from a bad neighborhood, getting bully texts, or harassed on Facebook? Not current enough for 'em?
Why not stick Will Ferrell in it and REALLY fuck it up like he did Bewitched, and Land of the Lost (the latter of which was prime for a fucking spectacular CGI dinosaur movie - the Jurassic film of the 00's, yet became a parody of itself.) It's either sequels, or remakes, from Hollywood. SO few new and original movies. Yes, there are always going to be common themes of love, war, sex, relationships, friendships, monsters, aliens, etc, but they need to rise above that. I think one of the more overlooked movies this year was District 9. I was very surprised by the movie, in that it wasn't another E.T. or V or Alien Nation type movie (which it easily could have been). It was very political, and real life issues were put into a science fiction film (a lot like Star Trek and Star Wars did to some extent). Even terminology was similar. But it also had a very interesting twist, and film technique, throughout. I encourage people to read up on the Wiki page about it, to get some background. I use District 9 as an example of a more original idea than the laziness of remaking an old film. Even Fame flopped. When will they learn?

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

Hollywood is just lazy these days. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

And it appears the name of this movie should be "The Kung Fu Kid". I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

Exactly, sence they're in China rather than Japan, where the originals were. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

Yeah, I would so totally go see this, but I'll probably go see Marmaduke instead.
Actually, on second thought, both movies are 'must misses'.

there's one thing that could save this film...if lil Jaden shows up to a dance dressed as a shower...

It's unoriginal. And another in a long line of remakes that just aren't needed.

okay? its not that serious. No, it's not that serious. The original was a great movie. But the point is that Hollywood, with a healthy dose of nepotism, is creating more and more mindless "entertainment". I keep waiting on the Jon & Kate movie.

People will talk about it. People that are 20 will hear from their 40 year old parents, who went to the original in the theater. It's like kids thinking Mary J. Blige's version of "Sweet Baby" is awesome.....until you pull out the original. THEN it's all in perspective.

Thank you! I'm no martial arts expert, but some of those forms didn't look much like Karate to me. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Well duh, but the point is that in the last 10 years, they've really begun a desperate attempt to crank out something they feel is "new and a fresh approach", when in fact, the majority of remakes are total flops. This one will be too.

It looks like the mother moved there for some reason. From Wikipedia: The Karate Kid is an upcoming 2010 martial arts film remake of the 1984 film of the same name. Directed by Harald Zwart, the remake stars Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. Principal photography for the film took place in Beijing, China; filming began around July 2009 and ended on October 16, 2009. The Karate Kid will be released theatrically in the United States on June 11, 2010. On November 10, 2008, Variety reported that work on a Karate Kid remake had begun. Variety states that the new film, to be produced by Will Smith, "has been refashioned as a star vehicle for Jaden Smith" and that it "will borrow elements of the original plot, wherein a bullied youth learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor." On June 22, 2009, Jackie Chan told a Los Angeles Chinatown concert crowd that he is leaving for Beijing to film the remake as Jaden Smith's teacher. ----- NEPOTISM! That kid's gonna be fucked up.
