although... i am dying to see if they hip-hop this classic song from the original.
the original song makes me laugh, it's so ridiculously bad. morbid curiousity to see them take it on would make me go... [Edited 12/28/09 19:52pm] Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. - Lord Acton

It's unoriginal. And another in a long line of remakes that just aren't needed. The original was horrible to me. And I LOVE martial arts films. But I never enjoyed watching it. Not only was the main character boring, but the style/technique he used in fights always annoyed me, lol. This new version actually looks much better than the original. With this little dude and Jackie Chan in the new movie, I'm definitely going to see this in a theater. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Karate Kid isn't even old! Why remake it!
I'd feel beter if they just made this Karate Kid 4 (or is it 5?) or something, keep the franchise name, sure, but don't eff with the original. [Edited 12/29/09 2:20am]

The Kung Fu Kid would have been a better title. It could have been the beginning of a whole new series. Then his sister Willow could grow up to be "The Next Kung Fu Kid." "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

I'd feel beter if they just made this Karate Kid 4 (or is it 5?) or something, keep the franchise name, sure, but don't eff with the original. There are tons of stories about kids learning martial arts and all the life lessons it brings them. So theres really no need to keep the Karate Kid brand going with this one either, but they need just for marketing. I mean, we are talking about it right? Score one for Will Smith. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

Despite obviously being 80s cheese, parts II and III are underrated movies. The second one is aesthetically quite appealing and has also a rather good score on it. The third one has silly villains, but is otherwise a rather nice story of a friendship and dedication. I also like the fighting scenes in the third one the most, because they're quite different from the rest.
For the most part the Karate Kid movies also portray violence in a bit more realistic manner than most martial art flicks. Especially in the two sequels it is made apparent that hitting or kicking another person seriously hurts. Mr. Miyagi is portrayed most of the time in a more unrealistic manner, as he really doesn't receive any blows back, but there are several scenes in these movies that I've actually admired of a more honest portrayal of pain, injury and discomfort. I'm serious about this stuff.

By the way, it was the second one that made the most money at the box office.

I've always KK Part 2! A lot of my friends were md about the love stories involved, esp. Mr.Miyagi's. Believe it or not my absolute favorite seen is where Kimiko(?) and Daniel are doing that love/ tea ritual just before the storm hits. The music! I need to find the score to this movie like right now. I'm sure you meant this as a Joke, But there is a remake of The Last Dragon in the works Samuel L. Jackson Resurrects ‘The Last Dragon’… Julius Carry Rolls Over in GravePosted by Rob Hunter (rob@filmschoolrejects.com) In the most obvious piece of casting news since Mel Gibson was announced to play Riggs in Lethal Weapon 2, Samuel L. Jackson will be playing the Shogun of Harlem (aka Sho’ Nuff) in the remake of The Last Dragon. Kerry Gordy, son of the original’s director, Berry, is producing for Columbia Pictures along with the Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA. Dallas Jackson (Uncle P) is writing the updated screenplay. The Last Dragon is about a cool young dude named Leroy Green, a student of the martial arts who hopes to become the greatest martial artist in the known world (or at least New York City.) This accomplishment would earn him the title of, you guessed it, The Last Dragon, but it would also give him the Glow. (Which would be awesome if it stood for the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, but alas…) In his quest for the title, Green faces off against nefarious end bosses including the Shogun of Harlem, a badass in bad shades that says “mofo” and commands an army of sycophants. I have no particular love for The Last Dragon, but I do think a remake is a silly idea. The movie is an iconic cult film of the eighties that belongs in the decade that birthed it. It would be like remaking Xanadu or Better Off Dead. To make it fit into today’s world the entire essence of the movie will have to be changed. Do you want to see a remake of The Last Dragon?
