I don't take anything except a couple of non-aspirins. It's not that big of a deal. One day of pain, no use complaining and acting like you're going to die, in my opinion, at least!

Plus, if you don't think about it, that usually helps. And exercise...

There are different degrees of pain, imho.

I've gotten them so bad at times, I couldn't get out of bed. So it isn't the same for all.

Plus it is hereditary, from what I understand.

That could very well be. All of my sisters, and me...have had it bad.

It was diagnosed as Dysmenorrhea, when I was in my teens.

It used to last for 3 days, the pain, but after I had a child, it only lasts for a single day, and the pains been cut in half it seems.

So although I am sick of having cramps, month after month...and I am being silly with this thread, it's much better than it used to be.

I used to take prescription medicine, called Anaprox...that was the pill of the gods - completely eliminated the pain.

If you like Anaprox, you will love generic Naproxen Sodium or Aleve... both contain the exact same ingredients as Anaprox.

They do? But I have to triple the dose or what? lol

I've seen Advil, I think they are the same color as Anaprox.

The average dose of Anaprox is 500mg, a tablet of Aleve is 220mg, so you would need to take at least two of them... they are exactly the same thing though, so you can skip the doctor and save a lot of cash!

I was prescribed 500mg twice daily. But, I would call a pharmacist or docs office before taking that much over the counter (just as a precaution.)

Unless directed differently by a doctor, these are the directions for taking Aleve:

· Drink a full glass of water with each dose.
· Do not take more than 2 caplets* in any 8 - 12 hour period
· Do not take more than 3 caplets* in a 24 hour period.

*Just to provide a little more information... your pharmacist can tell you more about Naproxin Sodium or Aleve. *

Thanks, IceNine...I know to be careful when taking any form of Anaprox.
I asked the doctor once, why it was critical that I take this medication after eating or drinking a glass of milk...he said, because it's so good, it will eat a hole in your stomach over time, and kill the pain while doing it!

biggrin

And thanks applekisses for the reminder. wink

I've never taken Percocet, but I've heard stories. My ex-hubby was given them for pain management after having knee surgery. (back before laser surgery was widely done) He absolutely loved those pills. rolleyes @ him.

I was prescribed Darvocet once though...most would not stay down, and the injections made me the sickest! I cannot even begin to tell you the types of medication the doctors were having me try to help with the cramps, before the creation of Anaprox - I was told Anaprox was fairly new when it was prescribed to me - somewhere around 1980 or so.

Darvocet gave me hallucinations! lol I was so afraid of cramps, I took a pill before the pain got bad...before I knew it, the floor was up to my chin, and I was shaking a bit.

Don't know what is in that stuff, but it sent me flying... biggrin

Darvocet or Darvon are analgesic narcotics... they contain opiods and are addictive... they also contain acetomenophen.

They are relatively mild, but they can certainly make people quite sick if they are not tolerant of narcotics.

Strangely enough, itching is a side-effect... not a common one, but a side-effect just the same... strange but true.

You guys love your narcotics, eh?
