She's not funny, she's pathetic and sad all because of the guilt trip her sister laid on her when they were kids.

I just love Blanche in this movie. I love how she treats Elvira (the housekeeper) in such a kind and respectful manner. Joan successfully makes the character appear innocent, causing the audience to feel very sympathetic for Blanche, even though she lied to her sister about the accident.

And Jane is a very sad character too, but I laugh hysterically every time I see the scene with Bette singing "A Letter For Daddy" in the piano room. lol

I think the real-life tension between them, caused by Bette never really liking or being sociable with Joan, helped make this film much better than it would have been if they had been friends.

I agree. that's got me wondering...was there tension between Bette Davis and Olivia DeHaviland during filming of Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte? Have you seen that film? There is one scene in a car (and involving a seemingly dead body) where Olivia's character is just shooting the most evil looks at Bette's character then she halls off and hits her. There are rumors that she really did hit her. Bette's face after the assault is so filled with fear and shock that you think "did she really just get bitch slapped?" I don't know, these women were such great actresses and perhaps the gossip machines of old were more apt to fuel rumors of onset fights and rivalries between actresses/actors. Today it's all about what on screen couple became and off screen couple. bored

Yes

Does anyone like the 1990 Redgrave sisters remake where they are sent up by a group of drag queens and it ends in a blood bath. At least that lacks the racist black maid scene in the 1962 original.
So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time
