Ex-Moderator | snow snow snow The midwest is gonna get what the east coast got a few days ago. It's supposed to start snowing tonight and not stop till Saturday.
Normally I'd love to be snowed in, but this is a bit different. It means I have to take an early train out to my brother's tomorrow in order to make Xmas. I'm gonna start traveling at 5:15 am and I won't reach my brother's till 7:30 at the earliest, maybe 8 or so depending on how much has fallen by morning and traffic from the train station where they'll pick me up. Sadly, it's the only train that goes out in the morning, otherwise I can't get out there till the evening. It means I'm missing the awesome-est new wave party tonight cause I have to be up at 4am to make my train. And with the amounts they are talking, it's possible I'll be snowed in at my brother's house until Saturday. That's a long freaking time to spend with my family. I normally like to spend snow days walking through drifts to meet friends and have drinks. Now it will be spent inside with family driving me stir crazy. It will be nice to spend time with them, don't get me wrong, I just don't want it to go on sooooo long. So what's your plan for the blizzard? |

I just found out my flight tomorrow was canceled, which sucks. I was able to get on a different flight, but it gets in much later in the day and it lands in a town an hour away from my mom's--and if the weather doesn't cooperate, those plans may be up in the air as well.

I think I'd go crazy if I were snowed in too long with my family I hope you have a safe trip though!!
Take some new wave cds with you to listen to on the train If you will, so will I

Take some new wave cds with you to listen to on the train I'm contemplating going anyway and sleeping on the train. My only fear is if I go I may not actually wake up in time to *make* the train. And I can't let that happen. My mom would think she HAS to drive to come get me and it's an hour each way in perfect conditions. |

If it were me, I'd probably just stay up all night and go straight from the party to the train. (With a stop at home to pick up bags.) You can sleep on the train, or have the perfect excuse to take a nap and avoid the fam at your brothers. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Are you flying to Iowa? One of the reasons I stopped going back for the holidays was that it was too much of a travel hassle and the airports are too far away for re-routing. When I went back in October we were supposed to fly into Sioux City (40 minutes from my parents), but because of a long, fucked up situation with the MPLS airport, we ended up flying into Omaha (2 hours from my parents) 3 hours later than scheduled. And our luggage didn't make it. Good luck! The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. We talked about that, but I think my brother loves the idea of us all being snowed in together at his house. He's always telling me I should come out to visit more often and when I do visit he makes comments about me staying longer than I do. I think maybe some of you are right. I might try to make that party after all. I don't need to be coherent at 8 in the morning. I could sleep on the way and nap when I get there and even shower and get ready there too... |

But that's all canceled now, and I'm flying into Cedar Rapids--not a big deal under normal circumstances, but with freezing rain and more bad weather, I may end up stuck there if my brother can't make the drive. I'm seriously considering rescheduling to next month.
