After 23 years Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins break up

After more than two decades together, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins have split, UsMagazine.com has confirmed.

"Actress Susan Sarandon and her partner of 23 years, actor Tim Robbins have announced that they separated over the summer," her rep Teal Cannaday tells Us. "No further comments will be made."

See Hollywood's longest relationships

The two -- both known for sharing liberal political views -- met on the set of the 1988 baseball comedy Bull Durham.

See more shocking celeb splits

They have two sons: Jack Henry, 20, and Miles Guthrie, 17. (Sarandon has a daughter Eva Amurri, 24, from a previous relationship with Italian director Franco Amurri.)

At recent events, Sarandon, 63, declined to answer questions about Robbins, 51.

In 2004, she gushed to the Times of London, "He is a guy guy, and he is also 12 years younger than me. I won't marry because I am too afraid of taking him for granted or him taking me for granted — maybe it will be a good excuse for a party when I am 80. Our children and property bind us, but so does the battle. We fight strongly but fairly. I can’t say that it is always comfortable, but he is my really good friend."

Oh, that sucks. I love those two together.

I sat next to Susan in a restaurant two years ago and have never been so starstruck in my life. She's gorgeous and mesmerizing in person. She had unbelievable star quality and charisma.

I never care much about celebrity hookups and breakups, but this one sucks.

Yeah, well she had a younger boyfriend for 23 years.

Susan was just on Letterman and she didn't mention Tim at all.

She mostly talked about her kids and that she went to Pole Dancing Class with Eva when she was going out for Californication.

Same. They're my favorite celeb couple by a looooong shot. And I can't even imagine myself having a favorite celebrity couple. I just love who they are and who they were together.

I wonder what it is about hollywood lifestyles that gets in the way.
Is it the distance apart?

I like each actor quite a bit.

Do you know many non-celebrity couples that last that long these days?

erm. Doesn't everybody? It's 50%

I would imagine it's quite higher in hollywood though.

Exactly, whether they are celebrities are just regular folk, it's rare these days for couples to stay together that long.

I would imagine it's less than 10% [for hollywood].

Which would lead me to believe that divorce rate in America
or anywhere for that matter isn't a failing of social norms
or moral obligations, but one due to the affects of and
pressures of modern lifestyles--job, travel, economic stresses,
etc. The economic 'need' to work together for the betterment
of the family in lower and middle class families, I would
imagine excerts enough pressure on families to stick together
for the betterment of the whole, at the expense of course
of self-fulfillment of the parents involved. I don't think
top teir individuals have that need. I know the growing affluence
in Asian countries is causing women to marry later in life,
reconsider marriage, or even challenge the social stigma of
divorce now.

So anyways, my point being, there must be something in hollywood
that excerts enough pressure on these folks to do it, outside
of our usual shallow musings like "hollywood lacks morals." , etc.
etc.

Tim and Susan weren't married. I think that's part of why folks thought they were doing it so right. They really were an example of a wonderful couple.

It's sad when such wonderful, loving couples can't make a relationship work. sad

They were married. lol

Just not legally. If people have been together 23 years, those bitches fall under the 'marriage' umbrella and all it's pressures and rewards as far as I'm concerned.
