x3 was what it needed to be--short and full of action. this is where synger failed with superman returns--every superhero movie doesn't to be 2 1/2 hours long with 80% dialogue and 20% action. by the time x3 came out, we pretty much had enough character fleshing out that it was time for them to just fight. that battle at jean grey's house was awesome. after going back and reading the dark phoenix saga again as an adult, there was no way they were going to get a 2 year story line in a comic book into a 90 minute movie

That much is definitely true, though it might have been nice to see them dabble in talk of a Phoenix Force and maybe do something more interesting with the way Jean looked post-resurrection.

I always thought it'd be cool if she looked gradually more ghostly/fiery, something like the pyrokinetic chick from Hellboy.

it was my understanding that it was going to be a two part movie that bryan wanted to do with the first dealing with Jean being the Phoenix and the second movie being the Dark Phoenix

The original X-Men movie was the first Marvel movie that didn't suck. Before then, they were producing things like The Punisher, the aborted Fantastic Four, and the truly abysmal Captain America. disbelief I've always felt X-Men was overrated because of that, but I actually liked it more than ever when I watched it on Blu-ray a few months ago for the first time in years.

The scene that did get me in X1 was the fight at the train station. It was a cool showcase of the scale of Cyclops' power (even though it was out of control at the moment), and .

hmmm That is a REALLY good point. I didn't look at the movie that way. I watched it with the mindset that they were gonna be the same as the animater series, until they started getting their asses kicked HARD.

Oh, please don't mention that awful animated series. At least none of the movies were anywhere near that bad.

nod Yes, it certainly was.

Personally, I'm glad they didn't get into talking about Dark Phoenix. I think these adaptations fail when they try to follow the comics too closely. I'm a huge fan of comic books, but the truth is that most comic stories are too dense and complicated for the movies.

Even being about 3 years older, "Pryde of the X-Men" is infinitely better than the animated series -- even with Australian Wolverine.

I certainly hope so. There are rumored to be several X projects in varying stages of planning. "First Class" seems the most promising to me (although I'd personally rather see a "New Mutants" film), and if Singer is associated with it, I'd expect a decent level of quality.

The ONLY thing that makes Pryde of the X-Men better than the TAS is:

Dazzler drool drool drool Plus, The Animated Series was based on the comics, so....

Indeed, that was part of the problem. Too much was shoe-horned in to the show, which made the plot a mess. For an adaptation, they did a subpar job of adapting.

Yeah, I'm watching that. It's not bad, but it took some time to get used to after how good the original animated series was AND after seeing the new Iron-Man series (which was SUPERB). I still don't like Wolverine being "in charge" of the X-Men, even though he's just doing what Charles tells him to. It grew on me as the season wore on, and I look forward to the next season sometime next year.

I can't believe Scott would keep wanting to harp on that Jean Grey when he's got Emma Frost right there ready to give it up. lol

I was totally surprised by Iron Man. When I heard he was going to be a teenager, I thought it was going to be terrible, but it's really good, and I love the animation.

I hear you about Wolverine and the X-Men. I do love how it's tied in the Days of Future Past storyline, which is one of my favorites, and I love the Sentinels as villains. I would love to see Sentinels be used in an X-Men movie.

You're right. I was none too happy about Tony being a teenager when I first heard about it. I figured they were going to pander to the dumb kid/teenage market to say, "Hey, even YOU can be a superhero!". But to my surprise, it was excellent. Very smartly done and the animation itself was outstanding, sorta like the next step of animation after MTV's Spiderman series from a few years ago. Speaking of which, I was VERY disappointed that only lasted one season because it definitely had some real potential. Things were very well done.

I do think they've almost made Tony too smart, given how yound he is. He's created all of that stuff in a makeshift lab? Where did he get the material for Iron Man's suit? How is he able to create different types of armored suits within a couple of weeks or whatever? And, how can he be chugging that heavy ass iron suit in his backpack everywhere he goes?

Whatever happened to the supposed Black Panther series that was being developed for BET? Last I heard, it was due to be out this past fall, but that was months ago!
