Could it be!?!? Bryan Singer Directing X-Men: First Class! "A tweet just flittered across my screen from the guys over at Flickchart, who are claiming that director Bryan Singer has confirmed that he will be directing X-Men: First Class." I certainly hope so. There are rumored to be several X projects in varying stages of planning. "First Class" seems the most promising to me (although I'd personally rather see a "New Mutants" film), and if Singer is associated with it, I'd expect a decent level of quality. His X-Men movies are so great. It'd be awesome to see him do another.
And once again DC is left in the dust. They really need to get their act together.

Why do Hollywood keep getting really talented, slightly underground directors to do these sorta movies? Must be the money I guess. From "usual suspects" to "x-men". What a waste LOL.

Uhhh....Singer directed the first 2 X-Men movies, which were actually pretty good (X-2 being the best of the two). It's not like this is his first go-round Facebook, I haz it - https://www.facebook.com/Nikster1969

It's not like this is his first go-round Yeah, but Hollywood has a thing these days about getting directors who did something completely different and credible, like Bryan for "Usual suspects", and waving enough money around for him to do big budget, predictable (but entertaining) tosh like "x-men". Most directors who specialize in action films like X-men can do this sorta movie easy, so why pick someone like Bryan? Must be a cred thing?

I just hope he doesn't LOL. It just seems the in thing to get credible, hot directors to do hollywood comic book movies. I dont mind people like Bryan doing one or 2, but more? Again just seems abit of a waste. His life and all, but still....

I found the whole X men franchise rather hollow and chaotic to the point of boredom. Really they need to do strip down version where there are only a small cast of characters that have real roles, not just here's X and his power is Y, Here's S and her power is T, etc etc etc.
I think the only saving grace of Wolverine was that it was stripped down of characters that allowed time to set up a plot and advance it. N with Patrick Stewart not able to be in it I'm rather meh. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

I think the only saving grace of Wolverine was that it was stripped down of characters that allowed time to set up a plot and advance it. N with Patrick Stewart not able to be in it I'm rather meh. They could have been better, but I think the first three films actually were a decent balancing act of showcasing enough mutants to keep the X geeks happy and developing a core few of them enough to support workable storylines. But you aren't the only one to make that complaint, and I'd guess it's part of the reason they might like to do this "First Class" project. From what I've seen, the film adaptation may stray from the books' First Class lineup: Angel, Iceman, Beast, Cyclops and Jean Grey. But I think the intent is to keep whatever mutants they do end up using down to a small number as the first few students Xavier takes on. [Edited 12/16/09 23:16pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I couldn't agree more about wanting a New Mutants movie. That's my favorite comic and group of all time. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I'm in the minority on this, but I liked the first one the best. The second one was great too. I liked the third one but had some big problems with it. There's still a lot of great potential in that series of movies too, and I hope they move forward with it.

Particularly, the Dark Phoenix aspect could have been a LOT more interesting both in storyline and production-wise. But I didn't dislike the film. X2 was the best. I literally teared up during the opening sequence. That stuff was just sublime! X1... well. I kept convincing myself it was good... until the latter two movies came out. Then I realized it was merely an appetizer to better things to come. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

The original X-Men movie was the first Marvel movie that didn't suck. Before then, they were producing things like The Punisher, the aborted Fantastic Four, and the truly abysmal Captain America. I've always felt X-Men was overrated because of that, but I actually liked it more than ever when I watched it on Blu-ray a few months ago for the first time in years. The scene that did get me in X1 was the fight at the train station. It was a cool showcase of the scale of Cyclops' power (even though it was out of control at the moment), and I enjoyed how he and Storm came off more as students reluctantly caught up in a fight than full-on, seasoned superheroes. x3 was what it needed to be--short and full of action. this is where synger failed with superman returns--every superhero movie doesn't to be 2 1/2 hours long with 80% dialogue and 20% action. by the time x3 came out, we pretty much had enough character fleshing out that it was time for them to just fight. that battle at jean grey's house was awesome. after going back and reading the dark phoenix saga again as an adult, there was no way they were going to get a 2 year story line in a comic book into a 90 minute movie
