I am currently working in a non-profit. We got a bonus in September, I don't think we will get anything else. I don't care, really. I think forced socializing is awkward. The building where our offices are located is having some sort of party tomorrow afternoon in the lobby. I think I will try to skip that. Our offices will be closed from December 24 to January 3 (inclusive) and I get paid for it, so that's nice.

Today our Exec. Director called a short staff meeting - and handed us all holiday cards. Mine (and I'm guessing everyone else's) had an Amex gift card. Then she asked me to stay behind and said that as of January 1, they want to increase my hours to full-time and make me salaried. (I have only been working for them p/t all year.) And they will either switch me to their health insurance, or pay the premium for the insurance I have now.

woot!
congrats hug

Which was lovely I might add. But it certainly wasn't to the employer or boss' credit.

How cool and what a nice holiday present! They must know they have someone good on their hands.

redface That's such a sweet thing to say. It's nice to feel appreciated at my place of work; I haven't had that for many, many years.

Thanks! hug Last year at this time my employment was completely up in the air -- I didn't know if I'd even have a job in January and then this opportunity came along. It's not perfect, but I'm making it work.

Thanks!
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I got a bonus worth half my monthly salary. Today, we each received a huge box of Cadbury chocolate. There's a party for the whole site (about 1,000 staff) next week, and they give you vouchers to buy any ten drinks from the bar. Oh - they subsidise each separate team, so they can each have their own team night-out. It's not a big subsidy, maybe £100.00 per team, but it's good enough. I'm going for a meal with my team tomorrow. smile

what government is this?

eek

Not at all.

There's a Christmas party organized at a restaurant. We have to pay for everything ourselves though. Basically all the boss folks did is reserve a big table. I won't be going. lol

I'm not the only one who has to work both days, but that probably has a lot to do with it.

But if they want me in on New Year's too I'll throw things.

If it was paid time, or they were at least getting appetizers for us I'd consider going, but I am not going to pay to have an extended dinner with a bunch of people I wouldn't associate with if not for work.
