We used to get half of our bonus at Christmas, when they estimated our year-end earnings based on Christmas sales. (I work for a clothing company, so the 4th quarter is always our biggest.)

A few years ago, when they were trying to make the numbers look better, they decided not to incur any bonus pay-out in the current year, and there went the Christmas part of the bonus. And they made it permanent.

So we get nuthin' at Christmas. The bonuses are paid in April.

wow, that kinda stinks...it's one thing to have never gotten a bonus of ssome sort...it's something else all together for a bonus plan to be completely scrapped like that...

It wasn't scrapped completely - just the Christmas part of it. I still have the same bonus target I always had - they just pay it all after the year.

To be fair, a lot of people started expecting it as a regular Christmas gift from the company - rather than as a true bonus for a profitable year. There's no doubt about that now.

I work for an international nonprofit. Wal Mart donates buttloads of gift cards to us for us employees. Then for our "fancy" lunch, they order a honey baked ham and honey baked turkey, loaves of bread, and feed us sandwiches. I use the gift card as a Christmas gift for one of my family members. I'm cheap.

Hell, it could be nothing, like when I was in radio. We NEVER got shit from that cheap fucker I worked for. Our department heads got bonuses all the time and it was up to them to disperse it to us/the staff. That asshole kept all of it. Man, I remember a record label rep asked me in January one year how I liked their bonus. I was like, what bonus? The one I gave your boss to give to you guys. He was a crooked as a dog's hind leg. He took everything.

smile

Hope to be fully self employed by 2012. And the bonus would be to have no boss! wink

eek Wow, that's awesome!

We used to get a holiday party and a gift card to the store of our choice. I think it was usually less than $50. I always thought it was better than a kick in the pants. We aren't getting anything this year. But like you said, I'm glad I'm still working. And I'm glad they gave my pay cut back to me.

Real generous. I get 2-weeks off, with pay. I get christmas parties (too many in fact). If we are lucky we get an extra day or two off, depends on the snow and how cold it gets outside. So I am lucky.

Yep....same here. Ours is today, and I really didn't wanna participate. They're even making us work Christmas Eve this year. Last year it was for those who volunteered. Now we don't have a choice since they laid damn near the whole place off. They act like we're the hospital saving lives or something.

I got a bonus worth half my monthly salary. Today, we each received a huge box of Cadbury chocolate. There's a party for the whole site (about 1,000 staff) next week, and they give you vouchers to buy any ten drinks from the bar. Oh - they subsidise each separate team, so they can each have their own team night-out. It's not a big subsidy, maybe £100.00 per team, but it's good enough. I'm going for a meal with my team tomorrow. smile

I am currently working in a non-profit. We got a bonus in September, I don't think we will get anything else. I don't care, really. I think forced socializing is awkward. The building where our offices are located is having some sort of party tomorrow afternoon in the lobby. I think I will try to skip that. Our offices will be closed from December 24 to January 3 (inclusive) and I get paid for it, so that's nice.

Today our Exec. Director called a short staff meeting - and handed us all holiday cards. Mine (and I'm guessing everyone else's) had an Amex gift card. Then she asked me to stay behind and said that as of January 1, they want to increase my hours to full-time and make me salaried. (I have only been working for them p/t all year.) And they will either switch me to their health insurance, or pay the premium for the insurance I have now.
