How generous is your employer at christmas?

... do you get a bonus? a christmas gift? Free bar at the christmas party? Nothing?

Or if you are an employer, are you good to your staff?

We used to get half of our bonus at Christmas, when they estimated our year-end earnings based on Christmas sales. (I work for a clothing company, so the 4th quarter is always our biggest.)

A few years ago, when they were trying to make the numbers look better, they decided not to incur any bonus pay-out in the current year, and there went the Christmas part of the bonus. And they made it permanent.

So we get nuthin' at Christmas. The bonuses are paid in April.

No bonus but I have organized Kris Kindle for everyone and that's always fun! wink

Not a thing.

My boss is taking my team out for a fancy lunch and other than a paltry amount from the company (that's only left because she hasn't spent a dime from the company on the team all year), she's covering a big chunk of it herself and me and my teammates will probably kick in a little if needed.

My company has never given Xmas bonuses. In years past there have been meals or parties but that's dried up the last few years too w/the economy. Last year they "suggested" teams get together and volunteer somewhere together. I actually liked doing that, even though some people thought it was a bit much to suggest that, but that's the kind of company we are. We have a huge volunteer council and many initiatives in our company to motivate folks to give back to their communities.

wow, that kinda stinks...it's one thing to have never gotten a bonus of ssome sort...it's something else all together for a bonus plan to be completely scrapped like that...

Up until this year, I worked mainly in museums. We didn't get bonuses. Ever.

At the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago) we had a holiday party at the Director's fancy-schmancy house and we got to bring a guest. That was cool - he had all sorts of awesome art, of course! My department supervisor would also either take us out for a nice lunch, or have a holiday party at her house. After 9/11, the holiday party at the Director's got replaced by less glamourous one funded by a Board member who took pity on the staff.

The Whitney Museum had a kick-ass holiday party, with prize drawings, open bar, DJ, yummy food, etc. This was several years ago. I don't know how it is now.

When I worked for the Smithsonian, we got jack shit. The museums in DC got/get a huge ass party. The ones in New York, after YEARS of complaining, got a small party - in the middle of the day at the National Museum of the American Indian (which is located about as far south on Manhattan as you can get). We were expected to return to work after the party ended. confused The specific museum I worked for had their own party -- a fucking bring your own pot-luck, after work hours, with NO alcohol. I hated being made to stay late at work (unpaid), fraternize with people I didn't really like, and have to bring my own food to do so. No thanks.

I am going to the Guggenheim's holiday party tonight. biggrin

I am currently working in a non-profit. We got a bonus in September, I don't think we will get anything else. I don't care, really. I think forced socializing is awkward. The building where our offices are located is having some sort of party tomorrow afternoon in the lobby. I think I will try to skip that. Our offices will be closed from December 24 to January 3 (inclusive) and I get paid for it, so that's nice.
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I work for myself as well. Aside from the rampant inappropriate touching that goes on, I think my boss is a peach.

We all get a bonus from the firm, according to seniority...and I ahem...have been here 23 plus years, so I am bananadance
As far as parties, we use to have an evening x-mas party, where you were allowed to bring a guest. This year that was downsized to, a special luncheon during the day, no guests allowed. But then you get the rest of the day off, after the luncheon. xmas

Last year my boss gave me five grand and the last two weeks of the year off with pay.

This year we're going on a shopping spree. I don't know if we are getting a bonus or not but I don't care because I am so thankful to have a job right now.

We didn't get nothing. Nada. And in turn I didn't give to my boss' retirement party and took the next three days off...and I still get paid for it. lol Payback's a bitch.
