I remember it clearly. I didn't go to school the next day and then was traumatized because I never had a chance to discuss it in class because they only discussed it the day after the "Day After" mad lol

Could you blame them? A film like this is a perfect example of how a few nuclear missiles can end humanity in a matter of a few weeks even if anyone survive the blasts.

About a nuclear attack that would happen in the USA.

Until this year, I didn't recall ever watch The Day After years ago. This is one of those films that will make most 9-year-olds cried hard.

They don't make things like this for TV anymore. This was truly hardcore for the times. It's hardcore now. It's hardcore period.

I remember it well. It was imprinted on my brain after I watched it. I was terrified a nuclear war was going to break out any minute most of 8th grade.

That was back when people actually watched TV movies of the week (and many of them were good). A lot of them were really scary. I recall one (I think it was a TV movie and not a "real" movie) that had Valerie Harper playing a mom whose daughter died and then came back as a ghost to kill the rest of the family. Scared me silly. smile

That fucking film gave me nightmares for weeks!!!

I hated the whole nuclear holocaust bidness because back then the Bay Area was a major target (We had Aircraft Carriers stationed here).

That whole vaporized in an instance or die a slow agonizing death to radiation poisoning gave me the heebie-jeebies... shake

Yeah, I watched it back in 1983 too.

I think most kids in the 1980s worried about nuclear war. I know I did!

There was a similar British drama called Threads which was screened in 1984.

I've never seen it. The reactions of those who have seen it are about as much as I want to experience.

I remember seeing pieces of "Threads" on TV a few years after is initial airing. I only saw snippets, but they were enough.

i remember being at church where they used to show movies about the "mark of the beast" and how people were doomed who didnt have it, and how even churches themselves were offering the mark, and how no one would be able to buy or sell without it...very scary.

then i thought (however creepy) of the song .."Home" from The Wiz.

...when i think of home i think of a place where there's love overflowing.

I remember it very clearly. The Soviet Union was very much feared in the USA at that time. There was a tremendous amount of hoopla, and a really stupid Sting Song on the radio (The Russians) at that time.

I mean, it was like 'The Terrorist' threat of today, but a bit amplified, and left AND right bought into it. Don't get me wrong--the threat was probably quite possible considering the volitile situation between the west and the Soviets (and within the Union itself), but I didn't buy it at the time (I was 13 I think).

I thought to myself if I really wanted to wipe out an entire population, I'd poison their water supply first. shrug

I was fascinated with the atomic bomb and nuclear winter though. So I found that aspect of the movie a bit neat.

You got me, man. I only ever saw disjointed pieces, so I have no idea of the plot's sequence.

Was it?

I thought it was the summer before. I remember it was right around the Purple Rain era, right?

The timeline is so mixed to me now lol

But I just remember at that time it was All-Russians/All-the-time lol
