calling any ex vegetarians How did you get back into eating meat? and was it this hard to begin doing again?
I haven't eaten meat since the summer of 2004 (I've stayed quite healthy, nothing wrong on that front) but I've been thinking about it for a little while and once I even tried a few months ago but I was too scared (sound strange?). I don't even think I could cook any meat, it just freaks me out and now the smell of it cooking is just vile to me which I find quite interesting. I'm not oppose to the killing and eating of animals, the pagan in me understands the cycle of life and all that so I don't really have an exciting reason for becoming a vegetarian in the first place. I just.. well I guess I was a picky eater to begin with, as a small child I would sit at the table and cry when we had to eat things like fish or meatloaf... like WTF is that!? seems totally disgusting to me. I don't know if i'm gonna start or anything but i'm like meat-curious. nothing fancy, just want me some KFC or Mcdonalds sometimes 12/05/2011

This thread is going to somehow tie in to the "Hairy Bear" thread. I can feel it. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

I guess poultry would be the easiest gateway back into non-vegetarianism.
Certainly not food prepared by yourself... that part is never pleasant.

My relationship with meat is sorta like Mach's
I'll go months without meat, just cause it doesn't do much for me, but If I randomly get a craving for a crabcake, it's no big deal. That's why I don't consider myself a real 'vegetarian'. I just eat what I like. If you want some chicken or something, just go for it. You've got no one to answer to but yourself. If you will, so will I

I was a vegan for a while, a hardcore vegetarian for many years, then a pesco-vegetarian for a while. Usually I feel best on a diet of vegetables, grains, beans, some dairy, eggs, and occasionally fish. But once every few months I crave some hot wings so I eat some.

I used to be a vegetarian when I was 18 but I didn´t really know much about nutrition back then and I ate like a fool.I was also taking a lot of medicine at that time which depleted my system of zinc and iron so the vegetarian diet I was following wasn´t a very smart thing to do and the doctor had to give me vitamin shots and he gave me zinc and iron supplements. I started eating meat again until the whole mad cow disease thing broke out in 1999....that´s when I became a vegetarian again not only because I was worried about my health but also for ethical reasons.
This second vegetarian phase lasted from 1999-2004 but then I occasionally started eating fish again because I really craved it and noticed how my muscles grew much bigger and looked more toned. I also ate less when I started eating fish again, gone were the cravings for tons of carbs. Actually it´s a very long story but yes, I´m an ex-vegetarian and I was pretty strict when I still was a vegetarian. I don´t feel comfortable eating meat, poultry or fish (in my opinion, there is really no such distinction, it´s all really meat to me, regardless of the species I´m eating). What I found out is that there is no one rule for every single person. What works for one person may not work for someone else, and it also makes a huge difference whether you´re male or female or what kind of aims in life you have, how you want to look or how you want to feel. Biologically, it´s perfectly possible to live without eating meat but that should not take away from the fact that meat really works wonders for some people. Another point is that my decision to eat meat again was also because of the psychological stress that being a vegetarian would cause for me....like not eating food that´s being offered to you by relatives, your mom, your friends, or the social pressure, or the craving you have when you walk next to a good restaurant, or maybe being some sort of double outsider in some occasions. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I got back into eating meat once i started eating fish. I got into fish once I started loading on tofu sauteed with veggies in a fishy broth. The tofu led to the fish, the fish led to the chicken, the chicken led to the meat and thus I stopped being a vegetarian. Which is good cuz vegetarianism just made me chubby...all that damn bread cuz I missed having something to sink my teeth into besides raw vegs. Oh well, I probably will go back to being a vegetarian if this constipation doesn't let up.

So let's See, I was a vegan/vegetarian for about 6 years.
I stopped for health reasons! my iron count was bad, i of course now had time to study more about how to go on it better. I mean, i guess i can be called a fish vegetarian thought. So its not like i've eaten birds or cows yet. I'm going back veggie after the new years, this time for spiritual reasons. I feel that when a person is vegetarian, their spiritual senses go way up. I felt spiritually clean, when i was a vegetarian. As if i was in tuned with all the things around me. I've became a friend of nature, i want to go back to that feeling once more, if only for a while at least. So I don't call myself a vegetarian for the stupid militant reasons that PETA folks tend to call themselves, i do to be spirituality cleanse. Cause i mean i can't stop the other animals from eating each others. People have the free will to eat what they feel like eating, who i'm i?

I tried going semi-veg for a while, eating only seafood and eggs. It lasted about four months before I broke down and had some fantastic baked chicken.
I wouldn't mind giving it another shot, but it is hard work. I think if I were to try it again I'd have to work out some kind of an actual dietary/meal plan and stick to it. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I seem not to eat much red meat.
When I do it's usually the extra lean ground beef. I like chicken, tuna, shrimps. I don't like fatty meats. Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

It is hard work to be a vegetarian, especially when you have to deal with these two-types of people in this world: People who bug you 'cause your a vegetarian and people who are militant vegetarians.. i recommend buying cook books, and then pick out your favorite cuisine type. for example, i love asian food, i tend to pick out books with an asian vegetarian blend. i love japanese food, and so well i look for japanese vegetarian cook books.

Both those types of people can definitely be problems. I think I might have an easier go of things, both in my motivation and in contending with others' reactions, if I had an actual reason for vegetarianism other than just wanting to try it. I was vegetarian for a long time because I was afraid of cooking meat. Also the whole idea of eating a carcass was kinda revolting and seeing meat in the grocery stores did not help in the least. My husband is a non-vegetarian and he used to cook it for himself. He would cook it for us, I started with eating cooked shrimps and later salmon. I still don't eat much meat, maybe once or twice a month.
