I'm definitely a technocrat. I believe that, with few exceptions, technology improves our lives. I just bought a Motorola Droid recently (an outstanding device, btw...) and I was just telling a friend how the first computer I bought had a 20GB hard drive and now I'm walking around with 32GB's in my pocket. That's truly incredible.

Anybody excited about this? I am, if nothing else because the Nexus One (The Google Phone) will be the first high-profile smartphone in the US not tethered to any provider. This should be the beginning of a cellular market much like that in Europe. Buy your phone, and then pick your provider. This can only push technology along much faster and create even more competition amongst service providers.

Now some of the video games coming out now are on the verge of looking exactly like live action movies (they're not quite there yet, but it's gonna happen within the next gen or two I betcha). It's mind blowing, really.
That is another one for me. I'm not a gamer. I just don't have a desire to have a game system and play these games. But seeing some of the graphics that are out there now....it really is amazing. It sort of makes one think about Star Trek, and the holodeck, and how 3D graphics are interactive on there. Systems like the Wii literally let you swing your arm to play tennis, instead of just hitting a button at the right time. Gene Roddenberry, Stanley Kubrick, in 2001: A Space Odyssey, showed people talking on monitors back and forth (a la web cam); they showed a funky little flip top communicator (a la cell phones), phasers set to stun (a la Tazers, and Stun Guns). This all at the end of the 60's, when color TV had only been around since 1951 at that point. All of that very science fiction type stuff is very real these days. I think that is what amazes me. I didn't put that in my original post, but these men who made movies and shows about space ships and aliens, also had the great foresight to imagine a world that was advanced, and somehow supposed to be easier on us and for us. The flip phone (clamshell) was from Star Trek. As soon as they were able to make a phone small enough, it waa blatant imitation. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.
