I've seen this happen in Cali a few years ago.

The cell phone isn't the culprit, the person is. He wasn't grounded, produced static, and produced a spark.

If your sliding in and out of the car, touch the frame of the car before going for the fuel pump. It will dissipate the static.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

It's my understanding that a cell phone being used in conjunction with the static caused the problem.

Sure, but he may as well have been holding a banana to his ear. The device isn't the problem.

I wasn't there, I can't see the spark jump, but I do know that a cell phone has never been successfully proven to be the problem in a gas fume fire. That show "Mythbusters" even did a whole bit on the issue some time ago.

The phone is a distraction though and could have caused an otherwise cautious person to not ground himself.

No arguement from me. That is NOT my area of expertise.

co-sign.

There is a gas station here where the checkout lady always tells me to stop talking on my phone before I pump my gas. I just rolleyes and go about my business as usual.
