The Powermat, where you allegedly just lay your gadgets on it and it magically charges without cords. Well.....wrong. You have to buy an "adapter", which is basically a casing that fits onto your device (like buying a skin or a case for an iPod, or a Crackberry). The adapter is what passes the charging current. The adapters run $40 each. The Powermat itself is $100. It comes with one adapter that is flat, and has a multiple tip USB cord on it to switch out devices. Big deal, I have one of those I can plug right into the wall, why do I need a pad to do the same thing? It's still a cord! If I want the iPod dock, or an adapter for my iPod Touch, or a Blackberry, or any other device, I'd have to buy one or two more adapters. Now I'm not only down $100 for the Powermat, but I'm now down another $80 for two more adapaters, and it only fits 3 at a time. So I've almost doubled my cost just to USE the fucking thing. You can see the "adapters" around these products. They look just like a rubbery carrying case, or skin, or whatever for the product, but it's what passes the current. I have one of these: All my cords are inside, with the tip sticking out. I set them on it, plug them in, and I'm good to go. Cost me $20, and I had to buy nothing else (unlike a $40 adapter for EACH device). Saves me using a lot of plugs in my house too because it's all plugged inside the charging station, with ONE cord going to the wall (the Powermat has one cord going to the wall too). So the Powermat is the most useless gadget out this year. | |
