Let's Poke Fun At The Guardian Editorial (and 55 other newspapers' around the World)!

I'll start:

Paragraph 6 features a football analogy by an un-named commentator.

Paragraph 7 features a reference to 'Mercury rising'. This will not tie in directly with most astrologists' predictions, and flies directly in the face of common sense not manufacturing thermometers containing poisonous metals for use in domestic situations. Common thermometers are alcohol-based.

and just in case (EDIT) 'GAUGING' is not a russian cosmonaut, it is a conceptual device which measures on a non-predetermined scale.
