Random people befriending you on Facebook, Myspace etc...

OK, so I have a few of you on my Facebook account. Mainly people that I have met or that I feel I know well to some degree. However, Im beginning to get a bit annoyed by people (mainly Prince fans!) wanting to request my friendship. I notice some people 'collect' friends on Facebook. I mean, who on Earth has over 1,200 'friends'?!!?

Are you a friend collector? Do you ignore their requests or just accept them?

I do have a problem with people I assume are from the org sending me requests and I've no idea who they are. They should at least give their username, I think.

Yeah, I agree. Or at least explain to you who they are.

This happens to me all the time. I usually ask a mutual friend who that person is but what I think I am going to do is "hide" my account so people can't send me friend requests anymore.

Yep. Plus some I don't even know send my wife requests too. It's cool if I know them well, as with several that have added my wife, but why should she have to deal with requests from orgers I don't even know. lol And why do they want to add her anyway? Collecting friends, as you said, I guess.

First I check the profile, then I click on "mutual friends" (on MySpace). 9 out of 10 times, I don't accept them as friends.
ESPECIALLY guys who use phrases like, "Wanna holla at you", "Yo shorty", "Yo Ma"... you get the picture. confused

One time I got a guy who was half my age, but that wasn't the problem- it was the gang signs and references, him smoking a blunt in his pix, and the guns and pix of things like "Scarface". rolleyes
Uh... DID YOU NOT LOOK AT MY PAGE BEFORE YOU DECIDED TO SEND THAT REQUEST, DUMBASS?! mad

Now I only have friends and relatives as friends.

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

I hate facebook, but I keep a presence anyway because a lot of companies, bands, retailers and websites use it to keep people up to date.

I am pretty much hidden to avoid random adds, and you can't add me, you can't find me by email, you can't see my picture and you can only send me a message.

I find it weird when people who don't even wanna or haven't even walked down the street with me wanna be my "Friend" on facebook. You know two shits about me.

I don't add anyone I don't know. I've had Wendy and Lisa fans, or Sheila E., etc, find me on their Facebook and try to add me. I deny the request every time. Okay fine, we both like W&L, but I can't imagine having anything else major in common w/ a stranger....not enough for me to add them. Facebook has proved to be a great place to find high school chums (I had a 4 way Skype conference with some tonight for over 2 hours), as well as family, etc. Flickr is the place where I'd add a stranger if their pictures interested me enough, and I felt I could learn something from their photography techniques. Facebook is more personalized, to me. Same with Myspace...I removed all my regular friends, and just kept bands and musicians on my list, just as a source of networking only. But still, everyone of those on Myspace I have found on Facebook (like Fagget Fairys, Confection, etc).

But a friend collector? Nope. It's about quality, not quantity.

I have family, close friends, co-workers, exes, people I am involved with at the moment on there...the thought of adding someone I only know on a website (no matter how cool or nice I think they are) is just not really wise, imo. It's just too easy for people to share info with others I don't want it shared with. I'm not saying that would for sure happen but I'd rather not risk it.

Let's meet first, that's all.

Don't agree to friend people that you don't know because it may just be a virus and if you click on that name you've got it on you computer. I was warned about this a while back, there are a lot of viruses over there.
