No. I mean that it comes from your pocket. uPtoWnNY said: Pro athletes are entertainers, no different than rockstars or actors. They generate millions in revenue, they have a unique skill only 1% of the population has, and they put tremendous wear and tear on their bodies(all you haters should look at old football players).
No one here is whining about Tom Cruise making $20mil a film. It's the same thing. There's a problem there. An athlete isn't anything special, really. Good musicians and good actors are actually kind of hard to come by, but ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE can play sports. And yeah, people are whining about Tom Cruise making $20mil a film. He's a shitty actor and doesn't even deserve that kind of recognition. Surely you can spot the flaw in this sentence!

Um, no I can't, because it's true. Even handicapped people can play sports. Wow, OK. Here it goes. Sure. As you pointed out anyone can play sport. As it also happens anyone can also play a musical instrument. My Dad can quite effectively sit behind a drum kit and bash away with very little musical ability. My sister has been known to pick up a guitar and squeeze out a noise that the generous of heart would describe as a sequence of notes. She is as equally talented at throwing a ball. On the odd occasion she can even produce enough force for it to leave her hand. Amazing. So the question then becomes one of ability. That is, how well you can play either your chosen sport or instrument. If you are exceptionally talented at either, then by definition you are 'better' at this activity than an overwhelming majority of the population. Therefore it is highly likely that people will be interested to watch you display this talent/ability. Perhaps they'd even be willing to pay for the privilege. Now given that your issue seems to be about sport. I'm sure you can recognize that the sports people that earn a significant amount of money are performing to a level that you and I are not able. If this weren't the case I'd quite happily register with the ATP and win a grand slam or two, and pocket a few million $ on the way... Oh, and by the way I saw this wonderful handicapped keyboard player once. Can't quite remember his name. Stevie Thunder or something?
