but we know McEnroe has been fined numerous times. As have others. It is pure make believe to say that Williams is the only tennis player to be fined.

And given that she paid more in tax for that match than the fine I really do not why people are so up set. I really do not get why people defend her fowl mouth poor sportsmanship garbage. She had a little temper tantrum like a little spoiled brat and she got called on it. As she should have, as the RULES she agreed to stipulate. She knew she could get fined, she choose to have a little fit.

In the US Open alone:

"Over $31,000 in fines were handed out in the final grand slam of the season with Daniel Nestor, from Canada, forced to pay $5,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct towards a fan he confronted.

Vera Zvonareva of Russia and Austria's Daniel Koellerer were also fined $1,500 for audible obscenities."

$5000 vs. $82000 Yeah, that's real equitable. rolleyes

This has nothing what so ever to do with freedom of speech. The 1st amendment only applies to the government not to private organizations. If you cuss someone out at work are you telling me that you could not get in trouble over it?

She was at work and she violated the rules of the game and was punished.

That's nonsense.

$82,500!?!

Ya know, the fine itself is neither here nor there for me where the player is concerned. It's a lot of money, but then she makes a lot of money for simply hitting a little fuzzy ball back and forth. shrug

What I want to know is to whom exactly does this $82,500 go -- underprivileged lines officials!?! confuse That kind of money could feed a family pretty darned well for a decent while. It's a ridiculous amount that way.

Do you watch Tennis ? Because if you do then you would know that the reason she flipped out is because a Foot Fault call is very rarely called and especially that late in the game. here's snippet from article right after the outburst.

Tantrums are a part of tennis. But the foot-fault tantrum appears to have a special place in the tennis world.

Perhaps this is because the rule is so inconsistently enforced. A player must not touch any part of the service line during a serve, yet line judges often ignore infractions.

What's more, some players say there is an unwritten rule that – just as hockey referees call nothing but the most blatant penalties in overtime playoff games – tennis officials should ignore seemingly ticky-tack infractions like foot faults when stakes are high.

Russian Marat Safin, no stranger to implosions on and off the court (see one about another foot fault here), had this to say in his post-match press conference about being called for a foot fault on a second serve at a crucial point of last year's US open.

"I think it was complete [expletive]."

He went on to give voice to what many fans – and perhaps Williams herself – were thinking Saturday night.

"It's difficult and it's almost impossible to make a foot fault on a second serve, and especially in the important moments you shouldn't call it."

And even foul mouth McEnroe has never been fined that much money.. Serena's fine set a record in the world of Tennis

The fine has nothing to do with the foot fault. Whether it was the right or wrong call is moot.

The reason for the fine and it's size needs no argument.

I said in a early post that she was fined because of the threat and i'm pointing out why she flipped and that was because of the Foot Fault call

In that match. She's still the biggest name in men's or women's tennis. She's been consistently killing these bitches in all the grand slams for the last few years. The only way to hold her back right now is to disqualify her.

if you curse, you get a smaller fine. if you threaten someone, you get a huge fine. those are the rules. as a fan of serena, i'm just glad she's not banned from any future grand slams. she's on probation for the next 2 years and i'm sure she won't act up again. emotions can get the best of you sometimes ok, moving on...

anyway just gotta give Serena mad props for being the #1 women's player cuz she has the biggest bust i've ever seen on a pro lol i play a bit of tennis myself as a hobby and let me tell you-it's not easy hitting backhand volleys or running fast if you've got a big rack. if you notice, most of the other girls are very flat (including serena's own sister, venus).

i bet serena's boobs were tired of being mashed into a tennis outfit, so one of 'em just felt like popping free in that swimsuit lol
